New Thought About Playoffs

I was thinking about it ... and i came up with this idea ... lets say in the situation we have no ... Eastern conference buffalo vs senators and western conference .... ducks vs wings ... lets say the finals are sens and wings or wichever teams it is , if sens win ... we would consider Sens as the #1 Team in nhl (stanley cup) #2 team in nhl Wings

and why dont we do another series for 3rd place ... like sabres vs ducks winner of that goes 3rd in nhl ??? is that a bad idea or have they allready thought about it and what can be the reasons that they havent done this ... ???

There is no "second place" in the NHL.

In the NHL there is one winning team, and 29 that failed.

That said, if they ever did decide to have a 'consolation' series and standings as such...they would have to move to a league-wide bracket system to account for stronger and weaker conferences.

EDIT: If you take all the teams that have been eliminated and rank them 5th through 16th based on what round they were eliminated, using regular season record as tiebreaker in the absence of extra series....the Islanders, who finished 17th overall, are the 16th ranked team, while Colorado, 14th overall in the regular season, is now 17th.

sorry but a "3rd Place Team" is nothing but something for little kids to feel better about.

This is the pro's. As stated above there is ONE WINNER in the NHL! That's it. Nothing more needs to be said.

The only reason to have a consolation series is when a consolation prize is awarded. The NHL doesn't recognize the loser of the Cup finals, why should the bother with anything else? Besides, it's all about ratings, next to no one would watch on T.V., or more important, attend the games.
