Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 some people talk about how datsyuk shouldnt be assistant captain becuase of his english. however.. wasnt it commonly said that yzerman himself didnt do much talking in the locker room? on ice example can be enough to fill the role. and lets be honest, pavel has set a pretty good example this post season. Even though Yzerman wasn't much of a locker room speech guy, when he spoke, he spoke very well and everyone listened (and understood ). And of course he spoke to the refs when necessary with no language barriers. In Yzerman's case it was not the quantity in which he spoke, it was quality. Dats leads very well by example much like Yzerman, however I personally think he is quite lacking in his communication skills at this point in his career to don the permanent "A". I'm sure he'll only get better in time.
DmitrifromRussia 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Well I don’t want him as an "A" or "C". He’s still great without these capitals, and its presence wouldn’t affect him much. Still he has good chemistry with Holmstrom and Z, does he need to improve his English?
Defenseman13 0 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 If Datsuk had scored during Game 1, I would have given him B+ or maybe an A-. He's a great player though, and I'm sure he'll finish with high honors. He just needs to work on English and Math a little.

Kira 451 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 I just saw an article in a back copy of either the News or the Free Press after Pasha was awarded the "A" to wear one night, and he said it meant the world to him, because it told him how much the coach believed in him and he wanted to prove Babcock right for giving it to him. stevie for president 42 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 he has definitely shown the most effort, and i think that warrants an A
RedWings 79 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Dats is an outstanding player, definitely the franchise player of the next years... But I am sorry, the guy is living in the US for more than 5 years, and his english still sucks i think the guy is very shy and don't practice enough... Anybody would master english after 6 months in the states... Even french people let's give him a A in a few years, when he will get less shy... Now it's not the best gift you can offer him

CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Why the hell isn't Cheli wearing an 'A'? That's the question I've been asking. He's the most veteran player on the team, and everybody has to listen to what he says, and he's been a leader in the NHL, at the International level, and even with the players association... Maybe he's earned the right to be treated like a captain without having to have some letter stitched to his chest. P.S. - If Lidstrom goes anywhere, Drapes should be the captain, no question about it. Cheli has said he has no interest in being captain/alternate. He has done his dues there. Also, Holland, Babcock have said Zetterberg will be Captain.

I would've given him an "Inc" for incomplete That'd be cool instead of "C" or "A" on the jerseys of some, there would be goofy abbreviations like "Inc" or "e=mc2". eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Datsyuk will never wear an A. [/font] He'll simply jump right to the K.
dicksmack 33 Report post Posted May 13, 2007 Beginning of the season I thought Datsyuk had very lilttle leadership quality but watching this playoffs changed my mind. He isn't just one dimensional player who chases for glory. He goes into corner if he has to and always goes back to help defense. He is probably one of the league best at poke check and does not back down from physical side of the game. Anyone saw him push Pronger away last night? I agree that he needs to improve his english skill, I've seen many foreigners who become quite fluent in english in 5 years. However saying he has no leadership is wrong. I can see him wearing 'A' in few years Not to nitpick a la toby but he's actually more of a stick lifting genie. As evidenced by his takeaway stats, he steals pucks like few can...
