Going to a hockey game is a luxury like many other non-essential things in life. If it's ok to tax smokes, I don't see why hockey is any different, except that you're a hockey fan and obviously not a smoker. Don't get me wrong, I'm against raising taxes as a band-aid to the state's problems but I am also against letting people with an addiction foot the bill for the budget shortfall. I HATE smoking and yet everytime the state puts a smoking tax on the ballot in my state, I vote against it. It always passes because I'm in such a minority. I feel my state (Colorado) and probably alot of others rely too heavily on the smoking taxes - it's contradictory for trying to get people to quit - because then they would lose a huge tax base.... StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted June 22, 2007 I don't like it because the government is trying to make up for their mistakes. And where is this tax money gonna go? If they said it was going to go to improving schools and/or roads then fine. But who knows where it will go. And probably 95% of the world uses ticketbastard for their tickets and are already spending like $10 per ticket "convenience" charge and then processing charges or whatever and now we will have to pay more money? I consider myself a democrat and I am still against this tax. This doesn't help the citizens get their jobs back after being laid off or anything. Is it going to create jobs?
