I like Rivet but wow...thats a crazy price tag. Not smart for a team that needs to address defense to spend that type of money on a guy who's really just a 4th or 5th dman.

Rivet's playoff ATOI: 25:18. That's not third pairing ice time.

Whats that have to do with it? Im not talking about how much ice time he got, im talking about his talent level.

No kidding, Craig Rivet always used to be a joke with me and my friends when he was on Montreal. He was a decent defensive, but nothing more than a 4th defensemen at best. When you're playing Craig Rivet 25 mins a game in the playoffs, you're in trouble.

Exactly! Just because someone gets top pairing ice time doesnt mean he's a top 2 quality guy. I think Rivet is really good for a 5th dman, even 4th,.. if he were on a team like Anaheim that had 3 good guys to go with him. Rivet getting that many minutes just speaks volumes about how much SJ needs to address defense.

The only reason Rivet played so much with the Sharks was because they have a decent at best defense to begin with, have less than mediocre offensive talents on the back end, and probably have the youngest defense in the league. It took a ton of different factors for Rivet to be playing 25 minutes a game.

You can only say this because Detroit has an abnormally good blue line.

I don't have anything to say about the amount of money because it all seems crazy to me, but Doug Wilson (the gm) knows what he's doing, and whatever he's willing to pay is probably right for the team. I think Rivet did well in the playoffs, and by all accounts fit in with the team quite well.

More importantly, he tied Mark Bell to Toskala. Otherwise he couldn't have paid another team to take on that albatross.
