If Schneider signs elsewhere...

It's quite possible that Rafalski could get $5+, but he won't get Souray $$$, maybe not even Matty $$$.

Rafalski is probably the best option if we can't keep Schneider. He'll cost less, is solid at both ends, and is from Detroit.

rafalski would require a longterm deal , 4-5 years , not matty ....... and i dont think matt will get 6+ , 5.5 at the most at a 2 yr deal , rafalski can get 5.5 from some team , so again , i dont get why if you think we cant get matt , that we can get rafalski ?? id rather have schneider at a shorter deal then rafalskim they will get similar money wise deals

And wants to stay at the Devils.

not so sure about that, sure hes use to living there but as a hockey player , playing that type of game plan they got in nj has got to be boring , if a team like pittsburgh with the style of play they play and the fact that rafalski is an offensive defencemen , if the pens offered him a deal you think he'd refuse it ?? I personally would be like , hey it was nice in nj , i won some cups now i wanna go enjoy myself and have fun playing hockey , i would so go to pittsburgh and play with the kids ......i think he might change team , i dont think its a lock hes going back to nj

all i have to say is if we don't re-sign schneider or markov, we better be signing a big name for our second line that will put the puck in the net almost every game... we'll need the offence.... if we cant get either of those two guys at the right price, we're not getting anyone who will come close to filling their roles for what holland can afford to dish out

Stick with the defensive crew in hand, and use the cash saved to strengthen some other area. It is the only realistic option.

The price of D this year just went nuts, and no one in the NHL or the minors right now can replace Mathieu for less money than Mathieu will be in line to get. The Wings already have one D making huge money and there is just simply no cap room to bring in another and still fix the problems that exist in other areas.

I think the main reason Kronwall doesnt play on the PP or PK is that he has no shot, or his shot isn't accurate at all, and that on the PK as with his 5 on 5 time he's prone to turnovers, he carries the puck alot and seems to get in trouble. I would like to see the Wings keep their 6 or 7 guys they have unless a unbelievable deal comes up to sign a veteran. They can't spend the money to get Souray who was a -28 or whatever last year or Rafalski, who is small and Babcock probably wouldnt play, they have to worry about getting Wingers.

7 NHL capable D? WTF? Kindl hasn't even't played a second in the NHL yet he's NHL ready? Quincy has never played a regular season in full and had limited time in the playoffs. He looked pretty good but an 82 game season with more minutes has the tendency to expose weaknesses of you d-men.

On you list I see 3 guys I don't need to worry about (Lids/Chely/Lils), I see 1 guy who hasn't played for more than a couple months without getting injured year after year after year, I see Lebda who'll probably be fine and 2 rookies one of which has never played in the NHL.

Sorry dude, we need another veteran defenseman.

So what you are saying is that Kindl isn't ready for the NHL because he hasn't played in the NHL yet. So how does anyone ever break into the league by those standards?

For those people out there who think we should go with who we have right now are crazy, if they make Quincey and Kindl their 6th and 7th D our top 5 are going to have to be a hell of a lot better than...

Lilja= Do I even need to say anything??????

Kronwall= Unproven and has done absolutely nothing in a wing wheel, while being overpaid!!

Lebda= speedy and skilled but very small for a NHL D and has a lot of learning still to do

Chelios= still a solid D but is 100 years old and rarely contributes offensively

Lidstrom= if schneider and markov leave and they dont sign a top 4 D, he'll probably log close to 30 min a game again at the age of 37, but is still the man!!

Besides Nick, there no way in hell they will compete next year with these defenseman, my personal choice would be a guy like Rafalski, but thats just my opinion, anybody agree?????

Just fûck you.

Kronwall has never been overpaid. He earned 990k from the last season. Many assholes like you are thinking that Kronner is overpaid, because he wrote that expensive contract during the last season.

But I just say for you idiots, don't judge him before he has played any games during this rich conract. He will prove that he is worth of it. If he isn't then blame him. BUT NOT BEFORE. I just hate this attitude and I'd like to take you balls off with a knife, if this bad attitude continues in these kind of converasations.

Ok dumbass, so he is just going to turn on a switch next year and do something because he's getting paid more, I highly doubt it, hes not that good buddy..... I say we send him to Columbus for a sack of used pucks so we dont have to spend however much he is making next year on the cap....... he can play with Anders Eriksson, the last wings D sensation who sucked balls

Matty won'tsign with anyone for 2 years..use common sense here...he's 37/8 last chance for the $$$$$

Rafalski is going to get 6+...schneider 5-6 +...Sourey can't play defence...Markov is the gut to sign

let Matty go... we can't sign both and zetterberg signing is not far off.

Rafalski does want to go to a team that will let him loose...take off up ice...and pay $$$$ LA isfor him

or maybe chicago...they need someone to help their new dmen

If Matty doesn't sign here, it will be because Detroit wasn't offering enough $$. In such case how would that in any way suggest that Souray is any sort of option? He will get more than Matty.

If Matty isn't re-signed, I would like to see a couple of guys signed, Rafalski would be huge, and as I've said before De Vries would fit very well here.

the fact is other than souray maybe there is no one who brings all that matty does so if we do lose him we will replace him with multiple guys like rafalski on offense and maybe sarich on d

Just fûck you.

The fact is kronwall has yet to do it over the long haul and i worry he will be another barret jackman

We have a couple of options here in signing guys.

1) Try to come to terms with Schneider or Markov and keep one. Sign Hasek and Big Bert. Spend the rest of the money saved from the new cap, Lang, Fischer, and Markov/Schneider contracts and sign some second line guys like Paul Kariya, Kozlov who are snipers and are what we need from my eyes of watching Red Wings hockey the past year.

2) Lose both Markov and Schneider. Sign Hasek, Bertuzzi, and get a D'man. I would love to see Rafalski in Detroit, but I don't see that happening. Kronwall is going to be playing big minutes next year, lets hope he doesn't get hurt or screws up and pulls a Lilja. Holland will sign a Greg Johnson type player to fill in the 2nd line who will not produce big numbers. Holland is just looking for a fill-in, role type winger or 2 for our team and a replaceable D'man.

Let's be real here guys. We all know who Ken Holland is and we all know who he thinks is the future of Red Wings hockey. He already signed Datsyuk, and Kronwall. He is waiting to sign Z next year to a long term contract and he can not do that with a full cap. Holland won't sign anybody unless they agree to terms with money/contract he is willing to sign them for. He in all likely hood, will wait till the trade dealine this year to do anything to help this team out next year.

Forget about Ryan Smyth and big name players like that. Holland wont touch them. Our best bet is to hope Bertuzzi can still be a dominant force and Someone steps it up a notch on D. Say goodbye to Schneider and Markov, we just saw them play their last game as a Detroit Red Wing a month ago.

i'm of the opinion we don't need to resign schenider or markov..

i like the look of

Lids - Lilja

Kronwall - Lebda

Chelios - Kindl / Quincy..

i see 7 NHL capable defensemen there. I'd much prefer to spend our cash on getting a 2nd line with some actual ability

The problem I have with this D-Corps. is that Kindl though showing great potential has never played an NHL game let alone a play off game. Quincey played well last year but at a limited role. Kronwall has been injured too much to have very much needed experience.

Sorry I can't see hanging our play off hopes on Kindl and Quincey.

One or two good players wont win anything in the post-season.

I too like Rafalski, but I'm guessing he'll quite possibly get as much - if not more than Schneider; whether Holland would want to pay that much for him I dunno.

Anyone here like Hamrlik?

I would like to pay the guy who is younger to a 2-3 year contract insted of doing this 1 year at a time. ChelIi's a differant animal. he did not see what timonen got and hold out for more like we assume mat's doing...And with Hamrlik I would not mind him in a winged wheel...A big body O.K. scores and 6 years younger...

If Schneider was playing against the Duckies we win the cup. No question. So why isn't he worth $5mil for 1 year. The other options are to bring in guys like Sorray for almost the same money or play Quincey or Kindl. In those scenarios, our power play gets worth and if it was just a little better (ala Schneider) we win the cup. Pay the ,man. I know it's to much but we have the cap room, it's only for 1 year and it may give us our 11th cup. The other options just don't get it. We have nobody out there that will give us what we need on the power play for less money and Kronwal isn't there yet.

The Ducks got the bounces the Wings didn't. It's very arrogant of anyone to think that with the addition of one player the Wings would have won the Cup. They would have had a much better chance with him, no doubt. But remember, the Wings nor the Sens could muster up a win without Pronger in the lineup against them.

Matty isn't going to sign a on year deal. He will want a longer deal, maybe 3-5 years. This will likely be his last big contract in the NHL. Souray is not an option, he will command more than Matty.
