Eklund says Wings are interested in Josef Melichar

I know it's Eklund and everything, but this seems like it would potentially be a move to replace Markov if he does not re-sign with us. Melichar is not as crazy as Markov is, but he seems to be a reliable blue-liner with good size who could play on the third pairing. He would also come a lot cheaper than Markov.

this is one of the only things that Eklund has said about our team that makes sense. Melichar doesn't do anything terribly well but he also doesn't suck as a purly Defensive D man. If we sign him for cheap it's a good signing.

we'd have said the same thing a couple years ago when lilja was signed as a relatively unknown off florida. If we sign him i've got no qualms with it. Worst he does is suck and go back to minor league hockey.

I say it's time to let the prospects get some experience. The whole idea of picking up a sub-par UFA as a second though just because there's a hole in the lineup is retarded when this team is the least generous with ice time for prospects.

Still, there are better choices over Melichar. If it did come down to Melichar or Lilja though, I'd take Melichar in a heartbeat.

I still haven't forgiven Lilja for his idiotic play in Game 5 of the Anaheim series, the same exact play that he got burned on more than once during the season. He's a horrible puckhandler.

I hope Eklund is wrong, as usual, about this. My main want for the defense is Andy Sutton. The Wings need size and physical play back on the blueline. Kronwall is really the only physical defenseman we got right now, unless you also decide to count Lilja.

Amen. I am ready to strap in and watch the young guys make some stupid mistakes. That is how you learn at every level of the game, in all areas of life. I hope Quincey gets over 41 games this season.
