Eklund: Selanne, Ducks...not even talking anymore.

He'll retire if he doesn't play in Anaheim.

I really do hope he would sign with the Wings, but I just don't think it'll happen. Selanne has his priorties set. I feel that he'll probably retire.

Eklund is a joke..especially when it comes to this...

Why wouldnt they be talking?

I was at a private party for players family the owners coaching staff and all that...and the samueli's said it best.."We are not letting you retire"....Its either ducks or retirement, teemu will be in a ducks jersey this year, mark my words...

You seem quite sure of yourself for something hasn't happened yet.

By the way, I love how you throw in your "private party" example like that. Is that supposed to be some way to make us all jealous or something, kinda like your lame attempt with your avatar?

i like the way ducks fans are so confident that selanne will return but if you look at the numbers, its becoming harder to believe.

and now with the oilers and their offer sheet for penner, i think the ducks are going to be longing for the days when there was no salary cap and teams like the red wings, rangers and avalanche would just throw money at every problem and buy a stanley cup.

ps- that last paragraph was mostly sarcastic, mocking the way that every crappy team would complain about any team that had money.

Its awaiting on what Scotty stays or goes.

I dont think there's a chance for joinning the boys in red. Although it would

be a shocker for us , would it not?

Selanne and Neidermayer will both come back to the Ducks later in the year...in Scott's case im almost positive he will.

How exactly? Dumping Bryzgalov's salary won't do anything for the salary cap hell they'd be in if both of them came back. I know you said once before that they should dump Rob Neidermayer onto another team, but how well do you think that'll sit with Scott if that happens?

I don't see anyone else on their current roster that they could dump and get some salary cap relief from. Most of the guys they have are young guys like Getzlaf that don't make very much money.

In the end, I'd say Neidermayer might return. But Selanne definitly won't.

Brian Burke is a sneaking frigger, he knows exactly when to bring them back. Just at the trade deadline he'll bring back one, and just before the playoffs they'll bring back the other. There isnt a salary cap in the playoffs.

Smart plan

It all depends when though. They have what...around 5/6 mill in cap room about?(with Scott on suspension) If both came in halfway through the season, Niedermayer would get half of his salary which is appr 3 mill im guessing. Selanne would probably make 4 mill over a full year, so he'd come back and sign for 2 if he was only playing half the games? Its definitely doable, this all has the feel of Burke having something up his sleeve.

I could be wrong on the money stuff, im just guessing thats how it works.

Oh, as for the Rob N thing, i did say that but that had to do with trying to keep Penner at the time.

Selänne has to be signed before 1st of december. Otherwise he is out from this season.

But Niedermayer can be out maybe the whole season and come back at the playoffs. This "suspension" is a faking cheating rule.

I have a huge problem with players taking the season off and suddenly returning just in time for the playoffs. The NHL should have a clear cut rule against this. AKA Forsberg in 2002 where he miraculously recovered right before the playoffs. Sure the guy had his spleen removed the previous season and he should have taken the time off BUT he should not be allowed back then until the next season - no playoffs.

I'm not sure why Selanne has to be by Dec 1 but no time table for Niedermayer? - the whole thing is a joke. If they want to take a season off (aka Hasek) that's fine but no returning in the spring. All teams could do this including the Wings if they have a late playoff run the previous season. We could sit Hasek out and probably still win our crappy division and bring him back in the spring. I don't like this kind of thing at all - there needs to be a clear deadline for active players - or they have to wait the whole year out....

ps. we need Goodell as a commish - a no BS guy that puts his foot down.

I may be taking a wild guess here but if the Ducks have 5/6 mil in cap left, doesn't that equate to 2.5/3 halfway through the season? Therefore the Ducks are still in hot soup if Selanne comes back by Dec. because there wouldn't be any space for Nieds unless Burke unloaded some big dollars.
