BigTex 1 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I'm praying Avery doesn't sign a last minute deal and makes it to the hearing today. Keep your fingers crossed. Any rumors or updates please post in this thread. I'd much rather sign a guy and have him be part of the team all year than come in at the deadline (barring any injuries of course). So easy to mess up team chemistry.
Cicada 4 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 he'll got to arbitration.. especially since he's pissed at what Sathers said about him in the arbitration document
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 He had a good year last year, but knowing that it is Sean Avery, I doubt he will want to come back to the D. He is an angry man who holds grudges. Pretty soon he will be out of teams to go to.
Jaromir Jagr 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Sather's comments about Avery were pretty harsh. Avery was in no way a detriment to the Rangers. If anything he could have been the reason the Rangers were able to turn their season around. If I was the Rangers GM I would have given Avery a long term deal. I just hope Avery takes Sathers comments about him and shoves them up his ass by having the best season of his career.

If Avery hits the market we're in the driver's seat. No way Holland passes on that.

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 *crosses fingers* oddly enough..last night I had a dream Avery was a Wing again. Oh how I want that dream to come true! If it doesn't work out with the Rangers and he somehow makes it back here, everything I said about this offseason being a boring one for the Wings will all be taken back. Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 As he is still a total douchebag, I'm not sure how interested I'd be in him in the first place. He is a bit of a mystery. But many people here think he is what we are missing. A physical player who fights. I will say this, if he can be had for under $2.5 mil, sign him; but any more... I did like him the first time around. I liked that he was a douchebag the same way I like that Maltby is a douchebag and Chelios is a douchebag and Hasek is a douchebag. Other teams HATE douchebags and pay more attention to them when they should be worried about Datsyuk and Zetterberg flying up the middle of the ice.
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I would like to see him in a winged wheel, barring that he acts how he did last year. Maybe there is more to the story on how Avery acted in the locker room in NY. I don't think he is worth the $4,000,000 that he will more then likely get. Do not forget that the NYI are also interested in him and if they will pay Fedastinko a ton, they surely do the same considering the amount of cap space they have. I say. F> Avery F> Forsberg Don't sign any more unless it is Teemu...
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Not trying to rain on your parade, but Avery is a dream come true yet signing Rafalski is boring? I miss that logic, Rafalski will have way more impact than Avery could hope to have on this team. He was able to score last year, but who were his linemates. It is not exactly like he was doing it all alone. He is not the top 6 forward this team needs. This team needs a goal scorer for the second line. If he comes with a fiery attitude than great. Personally I see Cammalleri as the best option off of the arbitration scene, however I am sure a lot of teams do as well.

He doesn't have anything to do with what I was saying though. I was moreso talking about it being boring and disappointing because we got rid of 4 players that pretty much were all my faves. I would like to see Avery as a Wing again just so I might be able to see Rachel Hunter at the Joe. Ahhhh....Stacy's Mom........... Hmmm well you're going to have to go to Edmonton to see Rachel because she's now dating Jarret Stoll. Her and Sean have been done for awhile now. He's now engaged to Elisha Cuthbert. grimace1970 81 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Avery was a punk when he played for Detroit, and he's still a punk.
Jaromir Jagr 0 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Avery was a punk when he played for Detroit, and he's still a punk. He's a punk that completly took Kovalchuk out of his game when we played the thrashers in the playoffs. Kovalchuk was more worried about hurting Avery than scoring goals. Having a punk on your team isn't always a bad thing. Edited July 30, 2007 by Jaromir Jagr
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I have a question, when Avery was traded, was it on good terms? I mean did he have a problem with the organization or vise versa?
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Avery knows exactly what he's doing. He's a so called 'punk' because he is effective in the role of being one. He knows how to take someone off their game, and he knows how to agitate. Besides all that he's been a completely different player since his first stint with the Wings. He's played much smarter, is very good on the PK, and can put the puck in the net. He makes a difference and in the end that's all that should matter. I have a question, when Avery was traded, was it on good terms? I mean did he have a problem with the organization or vise versa? Definitely was on good terms. I remember they were taping the documentary "The Season" for the Wings while the trade went down. Holland kept trying to keep Avery out of the deal, but the Kings kept pushing that if Aves isn't included then a deal wouldn't be made. I remember they even showed Holland calling up Sean and sort of apologizing to him. You can tell Aves was completely bummed, but Kenny and him were on good terms. glasgowcelticwing 18 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 I would like to see Avery back with the Wings. As a couple of other guy's on here stated, he does his job as an agitator and he does it well . IMO he's upped his game and changed his attititude the past couple of season's. he'll also chip in with a few goal's and in the long term if he keeps his head together , he could be a key player on any team he's playing for. OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 (edited) Aves had the worst attitude of any of the players I have met during a signing... however I am not holding that against him especially after he was super nice after the kings game at the joe when I managed to meet him and Roenick together... I would surely take him back... his mouth is 2nd on only my boy Roenicks and if I can't have one, I will take the other Edited July 30, 2007 by OsGOD

Opie 308 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 The team name would then have to be changed to the Detroit agitators Maltby Drake Avery If you include Holmstrom (because other teams hate him in front of their crease) that is an agitator for every line. Do the wings really need another agitator? How about a guy who can score 50-60+ points a year for the second line instead? If the wings sign Avery I am definitely bumping up my thread about the wings signing a bunch of guys that can do what Maltby does.

Yes, you're right, but an agitator that isn't afraid to drop the mits? Oh yeah, you could include Chelios in that list too.
Opie 308 Report post Posted July 30, 2007 Yes, you're right, but an agitator that isn't afraid to drop the mits? Oh yeah, you could include Chelios in that list too. True, but if they do bring in Avery doesn't that mean another agitator would have to go. The beauty of Avery in NY was that if he was agitating and people were distracted by him his linemates would be able to go almost unnoticed. If he came to the wings in order to replicate that success, he would have to be with Z and Dats, and then the rest of the team is a bunch of 3rd liners. I am a little biased because I do not want his mouth in Detroit, I wouldn't mind his play, but his mouth is the exact opposite of what Stevie and the others have built as the reputation in motor city.
