Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted August 23, 2007 I actually gotta agree with Vincanni on this comment: What he's saying is that the longevity of a logo tells you a great deal about the how people feel about it. If they didn't like it, it wouldn't have lasted the test of time. When I look at the logo, I don't see bland. Rather I see a clssic, clean logo. It's the same way I feel about the Stick & Rink logo that Vancouver sported on their thirds last season. If you check out the Wiki listing for the Canadians it shows the revisions to the logo over the years. Much like the Wings it changed a number of times but kept its basic concept the same. I think that is a testament to its greatness. Plus, those red uni's of the Habs with the blue pants just reek of class. When I see them I think Yankee pinstripes. The Yanks are black and white and that's it. They haven't really done much of anything to their uni's or the logo and they haven't had to. Because its simple, its elegant and from a historical standpoint, its iconic. Just like the Wings logo is and just like the Habs logo is. The idea that the Habs logo reminds some people of a toilet seat is absurd. Of course i'd be the first to tell you I can understand it because those people have their heads so far up their arses its the first thing that comes to mind...the s***ter. Oh well, at least the logo doesn't suck as bad as soccer in general. Boo, soccer! This is off topic, but I always find it funny that some people love hockey and rip on soccer. Its easily the closest sport to hockey in terms of relevance. I personally think it does look like a toilet seat with an H bomb in it. oh i love it because its old and there is history...give me a break you big babies. it sucks to some people. get over it and stop trying to change other peoples minds about it. Still, it was a joke and I don't place hockey above it in regards to some sport heiracrhy (sp). The fact that I don't like soccer doesn't mean I don't realize its one of the biggest sports in the world and is feverishly loved by its fans. Of course I think its hideous but apparently for a logo to be any good it needs to be creative, imaginative and not bland in anyway. Well, that sure qualifies now don't it. I think i'll stick with basic, rather simplistic yet classy logos like the Wings and the Bruins and the HABS! WHICH IS NOT A TOILET SEAT NOR DOES IT RESEMBLE A TOILET SEAT IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM! Well, in all fairness to me, I sort of had to lead into that one with something along the lines of soccer sucks to make it a joke. I thought about putting something in there like "man, soccer is an extremely tough sport and although a bit difficult for me to watch I still find it amazing that those guys can run that long and strike the ball those distances with that kind of velocity and I can understand why millions of fans the world over love soccer.................boo, soccer!" but that just didn't make as much sense to me. oh and btw....you don't know me well enough to call me dumb...only my closest friends can do that.....oh wait...DAMN!!! true dat. i apologize for calling you dumb. from now on I will only insinuate that you are dumb because you are a hillbilly and all hillbillies are dumb. Yes, I can think soccer sucks because as I stated I suck at playing it, not because I think its a crappy sport so please try to pay attention and keep up with the conversation. Furthermore, if anyone wants to tell me why soccer is so great, which I will absolutely not debate with them because I don't really think it sucks in and of itself as a sport they are free to do so as well. I don't find their logo to be very bland or unimaginative. If you look at logos like the Thrashers or Wild or Columbus they're pretty imaginative....but they still blow chunks. The beauty of the Habs logo is in its simplicity and elegance. Look at the Wings logo. Its not flashy at all. It's 2 freaking colors for crying out loud. Its a wheel and a wing. The wing is pretty cool but a wheel? Is there a more boring image you could put on a logo? A tire?? But the fact that that wheel means something to the location, the city, the history of that team makes it beautiful and elegant in its simplicity. I think the Habs is the same way. I surely don't see it as a toilet seat. Whatever. PS: Almost forgot to ask but I assume you like the Wings logo? If so, why? I've given you my opinion on the logo, which I love but believe to be rather simplistic in and of itself. It certainly isn't very imaginative in a sense like somebody went outside the box to create something like the Wild's 1/2 creature, 1/2 landscape image. Based on your unimaginative and bland standards you must not like the Wings logo either. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I just really dislike logos that are words or letters, and that's it. The exception to that is the Bruins logo, which I happen to think is very cool. I don't like the Ducks new logo for the same reason. It just seems lazy. The logos everyone else hates, I kind of like. I like the CBJ logo. Sure, it's a bit out there, but that's part of the fun of logos. You'll always have those borderline logos that people either love or hate. I think the Wild logo is very imaginative, and I like it. Likes and dislikes are very subjective though. There's no way to quantify the reasons you like one thing, but not another similar thing, and people aren't very likely to change their minds about liking or disliking something. Just because you tell me how good broccoli is for me, and all the reasons why I should like it, the fact remains that I don't, and I doubt I ever will. It's just the way it works. I don't see the point in berating someone because they like or dislike something as subjective as "do you like or dislike this picture." Although I like their color scheme with the dark blues. I think those are snappy. As for the Habs logo, saying you don't like logos that are simply letters or names because it looks lazy helps me understand where you are coming from and sounds like a reasonable reason not to like them. I just disagree, I like logos like that that are simple. I'm from Ohio so I kinda liked the old Jackets logo even though most thought it was lame. The new one isn't lame imo but i'm not crazy about it. I'll need to see the entire package with the pants and socks to see if it all goes well together. Still, cmon man you gotta go to the Canadians homepage and check out those red uni's on the front.
