Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=216187&hubname=nhl Scratch off another big name on the free agent market. Slowly but surely we'll start to see the bigger names get signed, as was the case here.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 As much as I cant stand Vasicek, a 1 year 750k is not a bad deal for the Isles who needed that center depth.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 Big name, little talent left. I never said he was a good player. But as it stands, he was one of the bigger names left on the free agent market.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted August 15, 2007 Has any team made nearly as many moves as the Islanders have this offseason? It seems like every week they either sign someone or lose someone. But I guess they have to if that franchise wants to ever be great again. I can't remember the last time they actually got to the second round of the playoffs. As for Vasicek, he showed promise during his first stint in Carolina, but he's been a journeyman since then.

Please stop being so defensive, I wasn't implying you thought he was a good player, I was just making a statement.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted August 16, 2007 Is this big news - not really. But it's still something and all I need right now is a fix! This doesn't satisfy it - not even close - but together with assorted rumors it will do nicely. Decent enough signing by the Isles, can't do much else though can they? The FA pool is drying up... The Islanders have lost Blake, Yashin and Smyth since last season, plus the assets they needed to give up to acquire Smyth. They're in bad shape.
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted August 17, 2007 yea the isles are in bad shape, they need to start getting some rising prospects and sign em
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 17, 2007 The Isles certainly love replacing top rate talent with 2nd rate talent dont they.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted August 17, 2007 The Isles certainly love replacing top rate talent with 2nd rate talent dont they. I'd say they and the Devils have had the worst free-agency period of any team in the NHL. Isles: lost Smyth, Blake, Yashin. Added Vasicek, signed Guerin for way too much money. Devils: lost Gomez, Rafalski. Signed Zubrus for way too much money.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted August 17, 2007 Ehh, Islanders didnt do too bad. Guerin = Blake Comrie can = Yashin Sutton > Hill at this stage in Hill's career Vasicek < Kozlov - no biggie cause they are both subpar players who dont use their size So they lost Smyth, which wasnt with the team very long and wasnt exactly a stellar player for the Isles. They didnt do too bad considering.
