Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 (edited) With the 07' 08' season almost upon us, I thought it would be fun to rate and compare this year's teams. Unfortunately not all of us are up to date on every team so I'm kinda hoping this becomes a team effort and many people contribute here and there to what they know, and as always, debating other people's opinions are quite welcome. So out out of a maximum of 5 points and a minimum of 0, lets have the categories go as follows: Offense (rate the teams' overall offensive ability) Defense (overall defensive ability) Goaltending (both no. 1 and 2 (and 3), and their skills in the crease) Physicality (laying the body; not necessarily getting penalties) Powerplay (self explanatory) Penaltykilling (self explanatory) Clutch (How good does the team do under the pressure of dwindling minutes) Coaching (Is the man behind the bench leading the team right?) Detroit Red Wings Offense: 4 Defense: 5 Goaltending: 4 Physicality: 2 Powerplay: 4 Penaltykilling: 4 Clutch: 5 Coaching: 5 Edited August 28, 2007 by Echolalia

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted August 28, 2007 Clutch and Coaching have to be fives. The only time the Wings played amazing was when it really mattered. And Babcock is an amazing coach. The rest....well....there's a lot of question marks. The only thing that seems to be a lock is good offense.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 (edited) Clutch 4....did you see the playoffs last year...where was our top line... The wings did the best in clutch situations last year, and besides I want this to be a thread on predictions for the upcoming year. But not just for the wings, any team out there. St. Louis Blues Offense: 3 Defense: 2 Goaltending: 3 Physicality: 3 Powerplay: 2 Penaltykilling: 2 Clutch: 1 Coaching: 5 although we're arguably the better team, I sense the Blues may end up giving us some difficulties this year. If they keep rebuilding and add a couple veteran players between this year and next year we may just have a little fun in the Central division. Besides, Paul Karaya's best games are against the Wings Edited August 29, 2007 by Echolalia
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted August 29, 2007 The only thing that seems to be a lock is good offense. Not so sure about that. The Wings have been a defense first team for awhile now. Last year's stats (I THINK....): Goals for - 10th Goals against - 1st

Guest nutz2u Report post Posted August 29, 2007 Since our power play finished 21st last season you all must believe it will be a much better this year going by the ratings you have given it. Can you tell me why.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Offense: 2 Defense: 5 Goaltending: 4 Physicality: 1 Powerplay: 2 Penaltykilling: 5 Clutch: 3-5 Coaching: 5 I'm not a very nice grader for some catagories, as you can see. Not to discredit the our top line, but their the only thing we got. We have basically no scoring after that. Physicality get's a low rating from me for obvious reasons. The PP was very bad last year, and with no major signings up front, I don't see it changing just in a seasons time. Sorry. With that criticizm aside, I still think the Wings will be a good team next year, because we have a great defense and a great goalie. So don't accuse me of being a jerk or anything like that. Mikeal 60 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 Offense: 4 We have enough playmakers for the pretty stuff, but we lack the good shot imo. Our attack is outside shot, inside pretty only. We don't have a middle ground. Defense: 5 We are better this year and last year was damn good. Goaltending: 4 Hasek is a wild card. He could be a 5, he could be a injury bound 2. BUT, we have ozzy. Physicality: 2 Our new recruits are weak physically, but we do have heart. That doesnt knock ppl over.... Powerplay: 3 No middle ground forward shot, we still struggle like last year. Penaltykilling: 5 Grind line members ftw. Long as we keep these guys and our skill players we always have a base for good pk Clutch: 5 Dats and Zets have stepped up. Lid always has been. Rafalski is, Drake is. Coaching: 4 Babcock hasnt been bad. But he isnt bowman. i followed Dats and Grigo before NHL. I think Grigo will break some bad scouter's hearts a cpl months into the season and shock some ppl like Dats did. He's 95% imo post crash.
