Guest Lebda4Pres Report post Posted September 16, 2007 How is that a guy like Brent Sopel is battling with Derek Meech he should be taking Lilja's space even though i do like the paintrain.
Heaton 1 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 Top 4 defensemen don't usually get camp try outs. If Sopel made the team he may act as a #4, but he wouldn't be one.
Mule39 0 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 Sopel would a third pairing defenseman. Hopefully they can trade Meech for a draft pick.

Lamothe 5 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 IMHO Meech is gone; never was close to making the team last year (even with our injuries)...That said he's gonna have to be friggin Superman in camp to be taken seriously; Sopel will most likely be slotted for Markov's minutes. Anyone remember Jesse Wallin? I don't think Meech is THAT bad, but I definitly think Quincy is the better choice.... Unless he has a super camp.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 trade? if they want him they'll just pick him up off waivers Not necessarily. Do they go by the standings of last season for the waivers? If they do, a team thats not way high up on the claiming order could very well make a minor deal for him. It would be for a very, very, low draft pick, but they'll take it cause its better than nothing.

When Sopel learns how to fight like the pain train, then he should take his place. Seriously, though, Quincey has higher potential than Sopel or Lilja, so I'd like to see him get more of a chance. I see Sopel battling for that 6 to 7 spot in the lineup. However, with the injuries that we usually have on defense, and the fact that Cheli will probably play less games, it's likely that Sopel will play in over half our games if he makes the team. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 16, 2007 Babcock is the coach, means that Sopel will probably be playing with Lidstrom. If not, he'll be playing with Kronwall. Win Win.
Icer 0 Report post Posted September 17, 2007 IMHO Meech is gone; never was close to making the team last year (even with our injuries)... Too bad. I've watched Meech come up through the system and he is a coaches dream. He's a hard worker who has improved every year and he consistently plays beyond his ability. Do I think he is good enough to crack the Wings lineup? Probably not. Do I think he's good enough for the NHL? Yes. I feel he could become a solid top 6 defensemen. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted September 18, 2007 Why are people so bent on Kindl getting into the lineup?? Hed be getting crap minutes and isnt going to be rushed into the organization with barely any professional hockey under his belt. Thats not how the Wings work. Hed have to be a full-blown superstar to be in the lineup making good minutes at this point and with how deep our d is at this point, thats not going to happen. If anybody needs the minutes to shine, its kronwall. This is a make or break season for that boy, and its about time the Wings org found out whether or not hes the real deal. I look forward to seeing Kindl on October 20th at the Griffs home opener. Can't have him screwing it up by having a camp that is too good
