As much as I am not happy about this, I can't say I'm surprised in the least bit. Downey really had no chance from the start. What I don't get is the guy they want instead of him: Mark Hartigan. This guy is approaching his 30's and has never been able to hold a roster spot on even the worst of teams in the NHL (Columbus, and Atlanta pre-lockout). He really doesn't do anything at all. At least Downey was able to fight. At this point, I'd like to see either Ritola or Ellis make the team. They both have had pretty good training camps so far. These are just blogs, Kenny knows he needs someone, and Hartigan and Ellis arent it. I LOVE Matt Ellis, but he does not serve a need on the Wings right now. Downey does, he can throw his body around and fight. From everything I've read, it seems like Babs likes him. Like I said, until I see a statement from the Wings management, I believe! Holland knows how to keep a good team together, but he doesn't know s*** about the topic of enforcers and their usefulness in a lineup. I don't see why we can't succeed as a team and still have a tough guy in the lineup? All in all, I don't think we'll have an enforcer on this team as long as Holland is around. If Kenny knows he needs someone, then why does he refuse to sign that person? It's nice that you're staying positive, but at this point, things don't look good for Downey. One of those Maltby's is probably Kopecky seeing as that's his line with Drake and Maltby (the note about Drake is probably because Ritola is taking his spot tonight because Dallas had Cleary's spot last night and Cleary is playing tonight in Z's spot because he couldn't go yesterday, I think...).
