TSN's "Expert" Panel Standings and Cup Picks

Always a fun show to watch - Burke - what an idiot. This guy thinks him and the ducks are the center of the damn hockey universe. He pisses me right off.

Anyways, nice to see some of the panelists pick the Wings for once - hope its not a bad omen. They've picked the Sharks for the last 3 years and in never works out.

Yea, Burke came off as a real ******* in the interview he did with Duthie. Burke acted as if he was being inconvienced so much by doing that interview. I wish he would get over the Penner offer sheet as well. We know he's pissed, tough s*** Burke. You got the Stanley Cup handed to you on a silver platter last year with the "amazing" referees in our series. Shut your mouth.

I am honestly shocked that this many anylists are going with Detroit. I mean, I know that's my Stanley Cup pick. But that's cause I get to watch em every night and I know what they can bring to the table night in and night out. No doubt in my mind that we will represent the West. Cause last season, the only team that could stop us was the Ducks. And IMO the Ducks just arent as good as their squad last season. And In my opinion, we stayed just as good if not better than we were last season. If Dom stays healthy. You better believe who will be hoisting that Cup. :sly:

I'm really surprised, too. Everyone else EVERYWHERE is on the Anaheim/San Jose/Ottawa bandwagon. And the first people to pick the Wings are a majority of a panel? Awesome. Of course, it means nothing. Le'ts just hope we don't disappoint. It's a long season and a lot can happen.

And how freaking cool would a Rangers/Wings game be? The two most popular teams in the NHL going head to head would draw massive ratings (at least realtive to NHL-level ratings) That would get America interested as well, because they are two of the most popular teams in any major sport and would sure draw in casual viewers who haven't seen either team play in years.

Pretty good predictions. Do you have a link? I don't see this anywhere on their website.

I love these threads. So long as the Wings are picked by most "experts" they are "pretty good predictions". When we all know that if that board read Ducks, Sens, Rags, Sens, Sharks, Sharks, people would be calling these "experts" a bunch of ******* know-nothing bastards.

When you factor in the cap space Detroit has, that could allow them to add a top six forward and a top four physical defenceman by the trade deadline, these predictions are not a stretch at all. Especially if the team stays healthy.

I was surprised no one picked San Jose...I thought the picks were great (obviously) but if I wasn't picking Detroit I'd pick the Sharks...although on Sportscentre just before the preview show The Reporters was on and I think one or two of them might have picked the Sharks...but Dave Hodge picked the Wings, so that's 4 picks there...very nice IMO

Don't get me wrong, I don't think its far fetched at all. I don't like the idea that our top line includes Franzen and Homer. Seriously, did anyone ever peg Franz as a 1st line scorer? ( Please don't lie people)

I don't have us as the favorite. There are too many teams that have great goaltending and lots of scoring depth. We need to utilize that cap space on a bonafide sniper before the playoffs before i'll feel comfy with any predictions.

I just think its funny how people can rail Melrose or even Maguire and McKenzie when they don't kiss the Wings' ass and then think so highly of their prognosticating abilities when they pick the Wings as favorites.

I hope these predictions come true, not just because of the Wings, but a Wings-Rangers SCF would be the bomb diggity!! Not too mention it would help the NHL so very much nationally!!

I watched this show and I almost fell off my couch when Milbury and Healey picked the Rangers to win the Cup. Talk about Homer picks! But it wasn't a surprise to hear these two bobo's pick them.

Milbury has a history of trying to win by spending $$$ and Healey loves any team that spends lots of $$$ (NHLPA homer).

I think the Rangers will be a very good team but bringing in two brand new UFA's is a tricky thing. Outside of Scott Neidermayer I can't think of too many UFA signings that ended up being worth their money (Selanne is another one).

For all we know these two could take some time to mesh and the Rangers will falter early on. And let's not mention that their defense isn't all that hot. Sure, they'll be able to score but defense wins Cups.

I liked how so many picked the Wings but as of right now it's wide, wide open. Too many good teams. But I agree with Maguire, if the Wings get Forsberg, that could be the missing piece.

Hasek, Robitaille, Hull?

Weren't they all FA's or did we deal for them?

If so, i'd call 2002 a success

So who do the Rangers have on defense that will carry them to the cup?.... exactly. Defense wins cups, Therefore the Rangers are not going to win the cup.

Not to sound like a turncoat, but if I had $$$ involved I would've bet on the Sharks as well - given our past history of being knocked out by lesser teams, & our lack of size...I was wrong, & damn glad to say that I was

I completely agree, it seems like 1 deep playoff run has analysts believing in us again...

Hasek was traded for and Hull and Luc were both UFA's.

But in regard to Hull and Luc compared to some recent UFA's like Gomez, Briere and Drury, neither of those two guys were asked to carry the team. They weren't marquee UFA's. They were great contributors, yes, but were not asked to shoulder the offensive load.

With Drury, Gomez and Briere, all 3 of these guys will be looked on as top line players. Players that will have to produce big numbers or they'll be a bust. All 3 got close to $8M a year (or more) whereas Hull and Robitaille were signed for far more modest contracts.

It's much easier to sign a UFA to come in and be part of a nucleas of well established vets and contribute in smaller doses than come to a new team and be told "you're the man! Make this team win!".

No offense intended, but I was amazed when I saw this.

I don't see how between so many "experts" you could predict that the Red Wings, who are lacking a lot of physical and offensive depth this season, could be better than the Ducks. The Ducks are geared to be a great team for the next 2-4 years at least becuase of their mixture of youth/experience.

All that aside, I must say that I wont be complaining about the predictions if they actually pan out. :)

I have no time for Burke. I'm sure he was one of the ring leaders in trying to get a Cap in the NHL, now he's bitching about it. What does he expect?
