Problems with DirecTV / Dish / Center Ice blackouts

Rate this topic

We have the sports package where you get Fox Sports Detroit, and we also have Center Ice, however the game is blacked out for us on both channels. Has this happened to anyone else who has Center Ice with DirecTV? We are on the phone trying to figure it out, but I was just seeing if anybody else here had the same problem.

I've had this isssue in California.

Some cable packages have FSN, FSPT (prime ticket), local AND Center Ice. SO... if you have two out of the three, often they will black you out because it's broadcasted locally, even though you don't get that local channel.

It sucks, but be SURE to call DirectTV, and immediately ask for a supervisor. Don't tell them your problem, just say you've been told to talk to a supervisor, and hopefully they'll clear it up.

Worst case scenario, you might have to go to a bar.

Did you get your issue resolved? Bets guess is that they consider you to be in the "viewing area" and therefor subject to the blackout rules. I don't recall how close Toledo is to Detroit (i'm from the Canton area but live in Houston) but sometimes the blackout radius is upwards of 100 miles. The fact that the games are not selling out this year will do nothing to help the blackout situation, unfortunately.

As far as having both the sports package and Center Ice, IF that game is not blacked out, you should be able to watch it on EITHER channel 6xx or 76x or 77x, i.e. FSD or the CI channels. All they really do is remap the 76x or 77x channel to show what's on FSD (channel 6xx).

Regs,

Jeff

I have had games blacked out on my NHL Center Ice package, but only if they are shown on Fox Sports or Versus or NBC for that matter. In over 5 seasons of having the Center Ice package, I have been able to watch every game if not on Center Ice, on another channel.

If you live in the Detroit area and your FSN Detroit is blacking games out, you need to call directv and let them know. That goes off of geographical location. I don't have the sports package, but my center ice package picks up every game except some national broadcast games like Versus or NBC, and some red wings games. Those can be seen on FSN Detroit for me.

Ya we haven't figured this out yet, however none of our center ice channels are working, but on the regular sports package(The fox sports channels) we can watch every other teams games. So we are thinking the Fox was the original blackout that was supposed ot happen for us.

I have Center Ice AND HD TV from DirecTV. I am watching the Wings vs. Flames on Center Ice. I see that there is an HD channel on DirecTV that corresponds to the regular channel, but the is nothing on it. I KNOW that the game is in HD in Detroit. Can anyone tell me why I cannot see it in HD on Center Ice????

I, and likely every other DirecTV subscriber, have the same problem. Thus far there's only been one or two games total simulcast in HD on those channels (throughout the NHL). Sounds like a good question for DirecTV, actually.

Where do you guys live? I live in Toledo ohio, and FSN Detroit ch 636 and the NHL center ice channel for the Red WIngs is blacked out for me. I have not seen any of the 3 regular season games yet. I was told that 636 would not carry the Wings this year, that is what directv help desk has said, oh and I have about 6 hous logged on the phone with them in the last week. My only savior is I called my local cable company while on hold w/directv and she could watch the wings.

I live in Loveland, Ohio, near Cincinnati. I would think Toledo would be in the Detroit viewing area, so 636 should be lit up for you. The Wings are on it for sure, since I can watch either 636 or the Center Ice channel assigned to the game AS LONG AS the broadcast is by FSN Detroit (I get the Sports Pak from DirecTV). 636 is blacked out for me only when the Center Ice broadcast is from the other team. It's pretty confusing sometimes.

I wonder, am I being blacked out in Toledo, because the Red WIngs are not selling out the Joe? If thats the case then I would think currently there are a lot of angry Michigan residents, for the last three Wings games.

I wish somone at Directv had a clue and could tell me what exactly is going on. They are on my todo list, Drop directv Get Buckey cable.

Red wings blackout area?

Can somone point me to a web page that details the geographical blackout area for the wings? Is it normally NHL imposed or the tv network that owns the rights that determine this?

I have directv regional sports package and NHL centerice and the wings have been blacked out all games so far, and I live in Toledo Ohio. My local cable company plays wings games just fine.

Nobody at directv can tell me what has changed for this season. I assume the blackout area has changed.

Well since your local cable company offers FSN Detroit. I would think that is the reason why it would be blacked out on Center Ice. That would be the reason if you lived in Michigan.

Buckeye Cable in Toledo was not blacked out. I had the game on FSN HD, ch. 643. So it sounds like a problem exclusive to DirecTV.

Evidently Buckeye doesn't have a deal to carry Center Ice yet, however.

Although I dont think Directv cares what my local cable company does I suppose it could be a reason, but I have watched WIngs on FSN Detroit on directv from the first day FSN was created. However many years that has been.

I think this is a mistake by Directv, I would think if it is not on FSN then it should be on center ice.

I need to talk to somone at FSN Detroit, and see what they say.

DIrectv replays the game at 3:00am and it plays fine then. So maybe I will watch it on time delay from now on.

Red Wings have been blacked out for me all 5 games so far on FSN Detroit and NHL center ice. Directv is basically worthless to me this year. Anyone else have this issue?

I talked with someone at the FSND office in southfield and he says directv has wrong information. And Directv says I SHOULD see Wings on NHL center ice, but they cant do anything about it.

I have not missed this many games ever! Now wheres my ammo? And a map to directv?

thanks for this post, I'd like to hear if anyone else has the same problem... my Dad lives in NW Ohio and last year I bought him the Center Ice package on DishNetwork. I haven't bought it yet this year for various reasons, this now being the most obvious. Does anyone else have the same problem? or does anyone else have it working?

You should call dish ad ask them. I have been blacked out on directv, here in toledo. Its based on zip codes so he may be ok.

I have called Directv numerous times.... all agents say that I should be able to watch the games on the out of market package because we now live in the Columbus Blue Jacket territory. No one has been able to tell me why I can''t watch the games on the out of market package. A complaint was escalated to senior management at Directv but they have not called me back yet.

An e-mail to the Detroit Red Wings organization has gone unanswered.

Looks like neither Directv or the Red Wings care whether or not we can see the games.

I plan to call Channel 11 CALL FOR ACTION and see if Jerry Anderson will get involved in this mess.... I urge others to do the same.

Forget about calling Directv they are clueless.

I have talked with FSN Detroit office in Southfield and he knew about the Directv situation and he said directv has bad information. FSN Detroit is supposed to be pursuing this with Directv. But who really knows.

Feel free to email me direct.
