As far as them coming back in the spring for the playoffs, I thought there was a rule that if they haven't signed by a certain date they could not play that year. Correct me if I'm wrong.

For Selanne, his deadline is December 1st due to being a UFA. Niedermayer is still under contract and has been suspended by the team for not reporting. He can come back whenever and at a deferred cost to help the Ducks cap situation.

Niedermayer will be back for the playoffs. Bank on it. It's gonna be like wrestling. The playoffs will start, and before the first game, Scott's music is gonna start, and the announcers will say "OH MAH GAWD!!!!! Is that? Is that? Is that Scott Niedermayer?!?!? OH MAH GAWD!!!!"

haha that made me laugh.

If Niedermayer comes back just for the home stretch/playoffs he better be the last guy allowed to do that before the NHL makes a new rule/deadline for players in his situation. And I'll be damn suprised if he doesn't come back somewhere in Feb-March.

I thought as long as you were signed by the trade deadline, you can play in the playoffs. I believe you can sign at any point of the year. Just not be eligble for the playoffs.

Niedermayer is just wrong! as a captian people expect a leader. the season has already begun and he hasnt made up his mind? hell make him president of the good ole usa. you expect way moe out of a leader. then to make pronger the goon captian. the team has no honor. thank godwe have Nicholas Lidstrom, and before that Steve Yzerman. two guys everyone is very proud of. glad i`m a wings fan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

heh, like said before the only reason why they are talking soo long to decide is because of the Ducks Owners and Burke said for him to take as long as he needs to take if it was other team decision would already be made before season (also said before) :guns:

He'll be back right after the All-Star Break, unless the Ducks are hovering around .500. If that's the case, he'll be back by the holidays.

I wonder how much he'll do when he does.

He's a great player, but in what shape will he be after not playing for 5/6 months ?

Being in good physical shape is not enough, IMO

I don't get your point. I would hope that you can choose to not fulfill your contract at work at anytime if you feel like it, I know I can, your employer can't force you to work. It would be different if Niedermayer was continuing to be paid, but he's not.

Point is I think it's a ***** move. I could not fulfill my obligations, but I choose to be a man and own up to them. Sure if I was PUP, that's understandable but I'm not nor is he. Not saying I signed a contract with my employer, but we've signed them to provide services to customers. You don't stay in business long by saying "you know, I'm just not sure I want this job any more. Go ahead, replace us as your supplier." I know pro sports and "real" world are two different things, but I don't believe that in either instace you should'nt own up to what you signed on for. I personally think his money should be counted as a cap hit against the ducks, until he retires.
