Carolina looking for a Dman

Every person who follows hockey closely knows that the red wings need a Winger in the worst way. They also know that Carolina has a ridiculous amount of them for an NHL team.

Spectors reports that Carolina wants to shop for an offensive D man. They tried very hard in the offseason to aquire one but where unsuccessful because one of the players listed in the trade (walin) wouldn't waive his no trade clause.

The other bait? Eric Cole.

Now, we've got quite a few young D men. A few of which are of the O-D varity. Lebda and Kronwall specifically.

Now the price for Cole might be a bit steep, and he's a bit injury prone (same as kronner) but after watching this kid play for several years, he's lights out. Seriously, he's every LGW fan's wet dream. Big, physical, Power Forward who scores 25-30 goals a year.

I'm not saying Carolina would ever trade him, but for what it's worth (and tha'ts not much) the rumor at the draft was they were shopping him and walin for erhoff. Surly we can put together an offer for him?

(yes i also know, that the canes owner and the wings owner, do not get along)

It's not even worth making trade proposels with the Hurricanes. I don't know why people even do it, to be honest. The hate between Illitch and Rutherford has been apparent since the beginning of time.

Not trying to be a jerk or anything, but I just don't think it's worth the time thinking of trade proposels with Carolina. You'll see the Wings and Bruins make a trade before the Wings and Hurricanes make one (Illitch and Jeremy Jacobs, owner of the Bruins, also don't get along, which is why I made that comparison).

is it really that bad? I'm not from Detroit (although i'm a life long red wings fan) and i know they didn't get along, but seriously? it's that bad?

Also Peter Kamonos ( or however you spell that) Owns the canes, not rutherford

I meant to say Karmonos, not Rutherford.

Yes, it is that bad. I don't know why it is, but those two have a long history with each other. As long as either one of them owns their respective teams, you will never see a trade between the Wings and Hurricanes.

Hypothetically, I highly doubt theyd go for Kronwall if they're giving up Erik Cole. I think you'd more likely be looking at a Kindl +, +, youth package trade. I dont think the Wings can afford to move Kronwall anyways. Lebda obviously can go, but you'll get a very small return.

true, but i think it's more than hinted Carolina is looking for an offensive D man who can play now. In alot of people's mind Kindl can play now, but that is an awfully steep price. Thanks for the imput.

Too bad they traded Johnson, I'd sure as hell do Kindl+Hudler/Samuleson pick for Cole/Johnson, if they really wanted a d-mna and at this point Johnson was still agaisnt playing for them. Alas, I would like Cole, but we wont get him for Kronwall or Lebda.

We don't have what Carolina is looking for. Offensive D-man? Only Lidstrom, Rafalski and Lebda fit that bill. Cole is not worth either Lids or Rafalski, and Lebda isn't worth Cole by himself. Kronner is supposed to mature into an offensive D-man, but he hasn't really done that yet. So the only trade possibility would be something like Lebda+prospect.

Yeah, i can see your point about wanting a "now" guy. Which makes it likely they would pursue a guy whos not an injury question mark and hasnt proved to this point that he's a 3 million dollar man. (not knocking Kronwall as i think he will turn out to be a solid #3 and worth that..but just sayin') I know Cole has had injury issues like you said, but they could definitely get more of a sure thing for him.

I dont believe theres any prospect aside from Kindl we could use with Lebda to get Cole. He just doesnt have much value.

Like Kp said, i know theres a 99%chance no trade would happen, but i like talking about trades anyway! (mostly just to critique people's proposals ;) )

It's too bad there's such a rivalry between Detroit and Carolina, politically at least. They'd make great trading partners.

Kindl, Kronwall, Lebda, Cole, and Williams come to mind.

I have to agree with you. When I first saw this topic, I immediately thought we should give them Lilja. Of course then I read the words "offensive defenseman", and that put an end to that fantasy. I don't know if I'd even consider Lebda to be an offensive defenseman either.

Well Lebda most definitely isn't a defensive defenseman either.

he's an offensive D man, but not the kind Carolina is looking for. They've already got a guy like that in walin, seriously,...they're almost the same player. What Carolina wants is a PP specialist with great passing ability, a rafalski type player.

Then maybe they'll take Samuelsson. He's a PP specialist with great passing ability, right? Well, at least Babcock thought so for the last 2 years.
