LEBDA22 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 His game is never pretty and he certainly wouldn’t make it as a model. In a skating race he would be the guy in the rearview mirror and nobody would ever pick him to represent the team in the “hardest shot†competition. He’s the mutt at the dog show and will never win a red ribbon. Not to worry. He wears enough red as it is and his ugly goals are works of art to Red Wings’ fans. He’s Tomas Holmstrom and he’s going to have another career year. Coming out of the lockout he tallied 29 goals. Last season he topped that with 30. He’s got 5 already this season and will hit the 40 mark. Bet it! At age 34 how can a player be poised to have his third consecutive career year? There are three main factors. One is the confidence Detroit coach Mike Babcock has in him. It’s really hard to produce if you know your coach doesn’t truly believe in you. The converse is also true. Coming out of the lockout Babcock and Holmstrom hit it off immediately. The second is the gravy ice time Holmstrom gets. For years he had to share ice time with a cast of Hall of Famers. Now Stevie Y is gone, as are Shanny, Hully, Sergei… The third factor? The playmaking of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Holmstrom is being fed on the PP by two of the top 5 set-up men in the NHL. Bet it! Homer scores 40. this is from BIll Clement!

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 my hockey savvy friend in Buffalo just got Homer on his fantasy team, and is very excited about it. Homer is the best at his job, and that is saying a lot. Who doesn't love him - aside from every goalie in the league, I mean?
Jamaica Jon 1 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 It's nice when ANYBODY on the Wings gets props, especially from Clement. I think this is well deserved for Homer. Glad people around the country are starting to notice his hard work. I also like the "The playmaking of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Holmstrom is being fed on the PP by two of the top 5 set-up men in the NHL" line. I've thought the same from the beginning... but it's nice to hear someone else say it, especially a professional analyst.
bringback91 2 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 What's to stop Chelios from getting "props?" Barry Melrose. Good for Homer, he's defenitly not getting any slack from the refs this year either.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Holmstrom's my favorite player (partly b/c he has a goofy number and I'm all about the high numbers ). Seriously though, I love his game. He's far from the most talented in terms of skating ability/stickhandling/flashiness etc., but he busts his tail off every second on the ice, and his work ethic more than makes up for it. My Holmstrom man-love has increased pretty much every game this season so far.

Geexh, I wish my own hockey-savvy SabreFriend held the same opinion towards Tomas-- but she LOATHES him, calls every lil inroad he makes into the crease, matters little if he's pushed into it. We have endless arguments about it. *chanting* You WISH you were a Red Wing.... Edited October 18, 2007 by RedRockit
