hockey&beer 16 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Please note I received this info second hand and therefore I don't have a whole lot of info. Apparently Mr. Holland is looking around the league to help fill the void left by Sammy and Franzen. My logistics engineer (delivery driver) heard this on the radio early this afternoon. No names were tossed around but I would assume that he's in the market for a "big body". I guess I was wondering if anyone caught his first hand and may have picked up on any language that would indicate a particular team or teams that we're in talks with? And just to make this interesting... Does anyone have any ideas on a possible addition. I have seen Doan's name on the boards the last few days and he may fit the bill. Well, at least being a true winger and above average size. Edited October 19, 2007 by hockey&beer
daniel1 32 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 I think it would have to be zero-loss acquisition at this stage of the season. Someone like Jason Allison or Anson Carter coming in for nothing rather than a trade. Doan would be sweet, but the Yotes aren't going to let him go for nothing, he's their Zetterberg and they would want a good player (s) in return. Maybe not Dats or Z, but Flip and someone else for sure. So who's still out there? Well I know of Allison, Carter, Lindros, Bondra.... help me out here guys, who else would be "available"? He is a "big body" 6-2, 225 and only 20 years old and very skilled and also likes to mix it up.
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Doan might fill Sammy or Franzen's shoes, but I don't kno-oooooow.... I don't expect Holland is dealing to 'fill a gap' left by two injured third liners (but 2nders here) like Samuelsson or the Fronz.
hockey&beer 16 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 OK add Drake to the list of bodies in the pressbox.
RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Sammy will be back for the game against Pheniox, but Drake will be out. So, there is still room to fill. I think a big body would be good. I trust Holland so i'm not too woried.

I wouldn't take Carter on this team if we got him for free. Ever since he decided to explore the market after his career year with the Canucks, thinking that he was "worth more money",he's been a no one

Guest jaytan Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Maybe not Dats or Z, but Flip and someone else for sure. Flip and change for Shane Doan? Talk about a no-brainer! Not only do we get rid of the useless Flipula but we add a terrific player in his place. I'm sold.
SweWings 45 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Forsberg? What's going on with that guy anyway... I know I should be happy that no-one is writing anything about this guy but it's getting closer and closer to comeback time for this guy... And don't get cranky - I know of his injuries and all that but what he can bring if healthy...

I'm sold. The best part about the internet: How if a guy like Dallas Drake has a fight, he's instantly our Primo Enforcer. If Drapes scores five goals in five games? The guy is totally going to be our second leading goal scorer after Zetterberg. Dom has a slow start? Old and washed up, that's for sure. I know it's easy to knock fan opinions on the sport, but come on, the short-sightedness here is amazing.

I like Flip, but I agree, that would be a no-brainer.
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 I think Forsberg would be an excellent acquisition. A few other posters see the wisdom in it too. There aren't any 2nd line scorers in the league that we can pick up without suffering losses for on the tradefront.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Flip and change for Shane Doan? Talk about a no-brainer! Not only do we get rid of the useless Flipula but we add a terrific player in his place. I'm sold. yea because doan has lots of years left in him and Flip just doesnt have any potential - no skills whatsoever. Let's get rid of all our small skilled guys and get a bunch of oafs like they have in San Jose or Aneheim. Shane Doan is a career -35 for god sakes. But he's big and that's all that seems to matter on this board.
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Seriously bro, you wouldn't trade Filpulla for Doan straight up? I like Flip, but I agree, that would be a no-brainer. It depends. Doan is pretty young still too - he's only 30 or so, so it could be good. I was mostly picking at the tendency of LGW posters to immensely overvalue or devalue a player based on... what, one or two games? That's the turnaround rate that I've noticed on people's opinions here. I really would like to say yeah or no, but I don't know how much potential Flip really has in him. I would be sorely tempted though especially with our needs right now, but that's part of the problem.

StormJH1 231 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 If the price were right, I don't know why Wings fans wouldn't want Shane Doan on this team. He JUST turned 31 on 10/9 and he scored 30 and 27 goals since the lockout on an awful team. Plus, he's 6'2", 217lbs. We have too many Larionov's and not enough Shanahan's on this team. Dude- you can say that for every team. That's the thing with so many of these rumours- they're basically wishfullfilment.
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Jeff Friesen of Jeff O'neill maybe?? Or good God, dare I say, Lindros?? That is, if Holland is really shopping around right now. All of em' are somewhat big. Not sure if I want any one of them in a Red Wings jersey. But If Holland thinks there is a void. I'll trust in Holland I suppose. Anson Carter is overpaid and doesn't play up to his size. That guy cleaned up garbage goals from the Sedin sisters for one season and the guy wanted 4 mill per season. I hope they dont waste their time on him.
