Why do we always have problems with the ducks?

Seriously i hate that team with a passion after last post seasons puck luck for that team, and even during their slump at the beginning of this season they still find a way to make us look bad with a 6-3 win. WTF is up with the ducks always beating us. I know we won the home opener against them, but it was in a shootout that could have gone either way. I really hate how for some reason we double their shots and they still outscore us. Is anyone else as mad as I or am I just being a whinny jacka$$ because I hate that team almost as much as I hate the AV's. Well at least the Av's had the honor to take off their helmets and fight like honorable people. Unlike Perry who still got himself destroyed by Drake even when wearing a helmet and massive visor.

If you're getting out shot by us every game you're not that great. I really just wanted to see if anyone hates them as much as I do, and if they think that there maybe a rivialry coming?

Shooting the puck don't mean a thing unless it goes in the net. Seeing as how they can shoot the puck at us and put it in the net, yeah i'd say they're pretty darn good. Does that mean I like them? No. RIvialry coming? Oh its already here.

Um, they're the defending Stanley Cup champs, so I think maybe that could be a sign that they're a pretty good team. Getting outshot by the Wings in two regular season games doesn't outweigh that minor little feat. And no, I don't hate them as much as you do....I can't stand Brian Burke, and I think "distaste" is the best word for how I feel about Pronger, but no, I don't have a lot of animosity toward the Ducks as a whole. The Wings will need to run into them a couple more times in the playoffs for a real rivalry to develop like with the Avs.

I hate the ducks with a passion. Pronger is nothing but a complete douchebag. Most of the team is the same.

Well they are a very good team with big guys. Getzlaf is just scary when he plays.. and he makes me nervous everyime he has the puck lol.

They have solid D and two very good goalies.

Also Duck Guy is a member here and is very respectful to our team and this forum so im gonna try my best here to bite my toungue on Giguere lol.

There is definitly a rivalrly already here and it may start getting hotter if we meet them in the playoffs again. Plus Pronger and the Wings have never seen eye to eye. What he did to Holmstrom is ridiculous and remember what he tried on Stevie in 02? Haha Yzerman dodged him and it was bye bye for cry baby Pronger hehe! But I can't deny how awesome of a D man Pronger is.. he's a dirty player but gotta admit he's a darn good D man. If he wanted to come here i would be all for it! I used to dislike Chelios in chicago and im sure many wings fans did as well but once he came here he's a fan favorite.

We don't always have problems with the Ducks. We beat them in the first match up this season. And we have knocked them out of the playoffs just as many times(if not more). I remember one year we swept em in the first round. I mean Im not saying we always dominate them or anything. But the winning definitely goes both ways. Sometimes we beat them, sometimes they beat us. Hense, we already beat them once this year, and they beat us once this year. Not to mention, we all know who has more Cups. The Ducks are without a doubt our biggest current rival. So don't get bent out of shape because of just one loss. We will see them again. And I have a feeling we'll see them in the post-season again. And I have complete confidence that the Wings will get the job done.

Is it just me or did San Jose play us tougher then Anaheim did in last year's playoffs, meanwhile Anaheim is the one who beat us?

Seems to me the Wings have a problem with Ducks' goalies.

Even in 98 I remember the ESPN announcers blowing sunshine, but I can't remember his name.

At least that was one year the Wings dispatched the Ducks.

Shots on goal is an unreliable indicator of which team is really controlling a game. They tell a story, but sometimes it's a misleading story. When the Ducks swept Detroit a few years ago, the Wings had mammoth advantages in shots on goal for the series. But those shots were from areas that are difficult to score from. Hockey rewards the team that works harder. Going to the difficult areas of the ice is required. The Wings did a better job of that last year and they had more success in the playoffs because of it.

Well, I get called crazy whenever I bring this up but I've always believed that we have trouble with the ducks because on top of being skilled, they're way tougher (argue all you want people, the Ducks would destroy us if things got out of hand) and they're size is too much to overcome in a long series, as was somewhat proven out last year. You can look at stats all you want and say we outshot and outhit and blah, blah. Well, 225 lb guys hitting you will wear you down more than Cleary, Malts and Drapes hitting you over time. We had no answer for the Getzlaf line, even Lidstrom couldn't contain them due to their size and strength.

First, the Ducks have alot of guys with skill

Second, they have pretty good team speed

Third, they're tough as nails and can ice guys who'll drop the gloves on any forward line combo or d pairing they have which I believe plays a part in winning battles, lifting morale, energizing teams and winning games.

Bert 6-3 231

Getzlaf 6-3 221

May 6-1 218

Moen 6-2 215

Niederma 6-2 200

Pahlsson 6-0 203

Parros 6-5 229

Perry 6-3 209

Beauch 6-0 213

Hnidy 6-2 204

Huskins 6-3 209

Odonnel 6-3 224

Pronger 6-6 213

vs the big bodies on our squad

Cleary 6-0 210 (i seriously doubt cleary weighs more than 200lbs, just an observation)

Downey 6-1 215

Ellis 6-0 207

Franzen 6-3 220

Holmstrom 6-0 203

Kopa 6-3 200

Sammy 6-2 213

Lilja 6-3 220

There's really no comparison at all. To a man the Ducks are a bigger, stronger, more agressive team and so long as they have skill to match, we're going to have problems with them. If they were a bunch of giant pilons with no skill sure, we've beaten teams like that forever, but not teams that combine the size/toughness factor with skill

For the record, over the past 2.5 years, the Wings record against the Ducks is 6-4...so, the Ducks do not always beat them. IMO, they do have trouble with them and it is probably because they are a big physical team, tough to play against. This is just a general opinion and not based on any statistical analysis. I thought in the last game they played against them, the Wings were getting knocked down a lot.

If you're getting out shot by us every game you're not that great.

Definately depends on the game. Getting outshot is generally not a very good indicator. Think about this scenario: Team A is getting dominated by Team B. Team B is simply controlling the game and not allowing Team A any chances at all. Because of this, Team B is going to shoot the puck on net every chance they get....which is usually a weak shot from a long distance, not quality scoring chances. End result in this game is likely Team A outshooting Team B, but Team B is clearly the better team and more often than not, Team B wins the game.

Well, my question is :

Is there any rule on length of sticks?

I've read over the summer than Perry (a.k.a. Douchetard) prefers to use a longer than normal stick.

Take a look at Getzlaf's stick too.

But most of all take a look at Pronger's. His reach is unfathomable with his stick.

Doesnt it seem a bit like cheating when you can reach a foot (exaggeration, but you get the idea) further than Rafalski can?

And dont give me that "They are much bigger than us" crap. I'm 6'2" myself, and my stick still comes only to my chin when I'm standing on my feet (no skates). I was always taught that the stick should come to your chin. I understand that people like different lengths based on the way they play... Homer preferring a shorter stick to deflect shots, etc, but this seems to be getting out of control.

At least Don Cherry is with me. He's been ranting about longer sticks for a while now.

To me, it just seems like the Ducks can out-reach us... which helps with winning battles, recieving passes, shooting around other players, defending against attacking forwards, blocking passes...

Zdeno Chara - I'm watching you !

There is a rule, you cannot have a stick measuring longer than 63", however, you can apply for an exception, which will allow up to 65". Chara uses a 65" stick for example. Oh and by the way, there is no way Chara uses a stick that comes up to his chin, since that would require a stick that is probably 71".

In terms of the Ducks having longer reaches, they probably do because, in general, they are bigger. Pronger will be able to reach a lot further than Rafalski due to the fact that his arms are much longer than Rafalski's arms and he probably uses a longer stick. Pronger probably uses a stick between 63"-65", which would simply be too long for Rafalski to handle.

I'm not sure I really follow any of what you're saying.

"Does it seem like cheating when you can reach a foot more than Rafalski?" Umm, NO. What do you mean by that, cheating? Is it cheating that Michael Jordan is taller than me and can therefore dunk and I can't? I don't even get where you're coming from with that statement, it makes no sense.

And as for them being bigger than us being "crap". Again, WTH are you talking about. I feel like you're implying that all players should have to use the same length of stick or something. Should Hal Gill at 6-7 have to use the same length of stick that Cliff Ronning used who stood only 5-7?

There's no "cheating" about it. I guess you could call it unfair if a guy has a longer reach than you but if we were going to be that trivial then we might as well say that it isn't fair that Martin St.Louis is faster than most players, or that Martin LaPointe is stronger than most players or that Chara is taller than all other players, etc.....

I don't know what Cherry's comments were but frankly, even though I like Don, he's like the racist grandfather you had who told off color jokes but wasn't malicious about it and still didn't know what a DVD player was. All one needs to do is look back to when Cherry had anything to do with the NHL as a coach or whatever and see how tall the average player was and compare it to today. Players are taller on average and therefore have a need for longer sticks.

What's getting out of control about the sticks? Should a player be penalized and forced to use a shorter stick just because he's a taller guy?

Again, let me repeat, what on God's green Earth are you talking about?

Sorry for the multiple posts, something screwy going on with my computer and I can't seem to get rid of the other posts.
