eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 31, 2007 Nonis (Van's GM) is young and if the Knuckleheads don't get it together soon his replacement just might want to rid the farm of the old cattle and start over again and who knows, Luongo would bring in a load of youngen's. Of course he's a fan favorite already and a great foundation to start building a team on but stranger deals have happenned. At this point the Knucks are NOT worthy of his play, thats for sure. Nonis dealt for Luongo in the first place, to solidify a goaltending position Burke never seemed to understand; Kevin Weekes, Felix Potvin, and Dan Cloutier were all 'the next great Canucks goaltender' to Burke. Nonis seems to have a good head on his shoulders and a decent core of young players. He also seems to have a lot of leeway from ownership as far as time to build a team. So what I expect to happen is he shaves off aging veterans, either cutting them loose when they outlive usefulness, or trading them for younger players. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted November 1, 2007 Luongo? The next goaltender in Detroit? Not anytime within the next few seasons IMO with how they are trying to prep and promote Jimmy Howard and with Chris Osgood looking like he might finish out his career here (not saying that it's bound to happen or don't have credible sources, just a gut feeling with how well he's started this year and accepted his current role in the organization). Thinking that Luongo will be a Red Wing anytime soon is a pipe dream I think with the roles that Osgood and Howard are currently in.
