donfishmaster 62 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Agreed. I have watched every game either at the Joe or on TV and this is one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Wings history, bar none. Which begs the questions: -Why don't more people go to the games? -Why would we add somebody like Forsburgmonkey when people on this forum have been complaining for years about a need for a youth movement? This team is deep, a great mix of young/old, and resilient. I wouldn't mess with the chemistry for anything! -Why would we start Hasek if he comes back? auxlepli 17 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Numbers don't lie. I kind of feel sorry for the other teams in the league. I don't. What I do worry about is the Wings becoming a target team for the rest of the League. All the other teams play up for the Wings. It kinda happens already, but it will more so if the Wings' superior play continues.

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 The Wings are now off for 6 days, so enjoy this image while it lasts. Crosby's a comin'. Well, the Pens only play 2 games during that period and he's currently 5 pts behind Hank. Crosby has 6 pts in his last 2 games, so it's certainly no stretch to think he may take over the lead during this time, but I think the more realistic scenario is that it will take a little longer. 1 of those games is against the Devils, who really focus on shutting Crosby down. I'm suprised that no one has really brought this up before, but I think the low attendence figures also reflect (among other things, of course) the fact that Steve Yzerman is not playing, and to a certain extent, the combination of Yzerman and Shanahan not being on the ice. It may take a while for the more casual fan to get familiar with the second and fourth lines. My dad used to know all the lines and watch all the games, said he hasn't watched a game yet this year and hardly knows anyone on the team anymore. The Red Wings have alwasy been a target for other teams. Its great to see how this board has gone from "oh no, we got no one on our team" to "we got exciting hockey"! Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 (edited) I hope Zetterberg stays healthy so he can blast his way past the 100 point mark. I guess my big question is when Hasek comes back, IF he struggles, what the hell is Babcock gonna do? Because I'm sorry right now Ozzie is far superior, he hasn't played this well since the 97-98 season. (IMO) Edited November 2, 2007 by Winged Scooter

I'm opening myself to get flamed here, but I think the Wings are one of the most boring teams in the league to watch. Dats and Zetts are a pleasure to view but the rest of the team is boring. We play a very boring, suffocating style that puts a lot of fans to sleep. I shouldn't complain because we'll more than likely use this style to get another #1 seed locked up. But the last couple of years I use most of my free time and Center Ice subscription to watch other teams during the regular season. But I tune in for every minute of Wings playoff hockey. Kira 451 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 BORING???????? Au contraire...I think this season has been some of the best hockey to watch. A lot of the games have come down to the wire. Look at the Edmonton game the other night...the winning goal with only 24 seconds to go. How can that be called boring? And to think some of the wags called us a "second-tier team" at the start of the season. "Second-tier"???? BULLs*** with a side of fries.

Hank 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 Nahh, nothing wrong with that opinion, of course it would be cool to see 80's style wide-open hockey. But you do have to admit, that #1 line is DAMN IMPRESSIVE! And Rafalski has fit in even better than I thought he would... Absolutely! The #1 line is an exceptionally entertaining watch. Out of all the top lines in the league, the Zetts-Dats-Homer line is the best, bar-none. Kira, the reason why I say it's boring is because even though I'm a Wings fan I enjoy watching games for both sides. This shows my age but back in the day when, say, the Islanders would roll in to town I loved watching Patty Lafontaine do his thing. Or Bure in Vancouver, Sakic in Quebec, Fluery in Calgary, Recchi if Philly, etc. It's not just the Wings stars that I like to see do their thing. But it's hard for an offensive player to be entertaining without the puck - which the Wings don't like to give up very often. Like I said, I'm trying not to complain because the Wings are winning and the top line is awesome to watch. But along with the physicality of the sport, I enjoy watching the offensive stars shine. That doesn't happen a whole lot in Wings games because the top line can't play 40 minutes and the other team never has the puck. Just my $.02. P.S. Even though they've struggled this year Buffalo is a fun team to watch. I swear Derek Roy is the 2nd coming of Doug Gilmour. And Kovalchuk was a man possessed in the Sens game last night too. I have nothing against Dom, and I dont want people in here claiming that we all just hate him and all this BS, get over it. Ozzie is doing phenominal. When our "backup" goalie is Number one in wins, and undeafted, and number two in GAA....keep him in net!!

Dats and Zetts are a pleasure to view but the rest of the team is boring. I am never bored watching the Wings win. And the Wings have plenty of sources of entertainment outside ZDH. Flip is a joy to watch, IMO. One of the hardest workers in the whole league. The PK is a thing of beauty. It's a clinic in power play suffocation, especially Cleary, who has the best penalty-killing instincts I've ever seen. And there's even been a few fights this year. datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 it's a tough situation, but i agree, oz has been far and away the better goalie so far this year. i know dom is notorious for starting slow, but he's started really slow. but it's a tough call, because having a happy, confident dom could be a leathal weapon. at the same time, ozzie is playing out of his mind right now, and he's bailed this team out several times with key saves, dom hasn't done much of that at all. it's hard to justify sitting somebody playing as well as ozzie. maybe detroit can do a tandem thing, rather than starter-backup. i don't if that'd fly with dom or not, i know he came here to be the starter. dustin35 0 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 I agree and dome should be our starter but as for now ozzie has earned his playing time and i feel we owe it to him to at least let him play till he looses. hes hot keep him in. once he looses then dom can come and and take over. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 (edited) From what I read over at MLive today, Babcock sounds like he is going to be giving the start on Wednesday to Osgood. "Hasek said he hopes to play Wednesday -- but he'll have to run that by Babcock, first. "He won't be going Wednesday, probably, but he'll go when he goes," Edited November 2, 2007 by WhiteLightning91

I'm sure you know this already but we play a lot more tactical games compared to eastern teams. So maybe that's why there isn't much drama happening during regular season games. Part of the reason why ppl don't come to Joe is that we play too much divisional games. This year it looks to be very competitive but it sure as hell made people think twice before buying season ticket.
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted November 2, 2007 i am the only one that feels its A OK to get mood swings when sports teams are the topic? is it not ok for us to be concerned when they lose 3 road games in a row and have no worries when they break off seven straight? i think its just fine. right now we ride high. tomorrow may be a different story. same thing with the chargers here in SD. they lost 3 straight and looked like s***. now they win three in a row and we look like last years team. its the way it is. i just dont think it needs to be announced every time we switch gears. its life. as long as we keep coming back win or lose, who cares right? This year it looks to be very competitive but it sure as hell made people think twice before buying season ticket. You're right. It's funny, before the lockout it was the East that was boring. Lots of trap hockey and very little flow. Now that's reveresed. The Wings, Wild, C-bus, Vancouver, Dal, etc all play a very tight, trapping style. Divisional play certainly has hurt the attendance but I know that if Zetterberg and Datsyuk were named John Smith and Jim Johnson, the Joe would be packed.
