daniel cleary and derek meech for carter, would that even be a possibility ?? i know clearys been awesome but to get something good you gotta give up something good , carter is only 22 .... cant give a maltby whos career is over

Give up one of an incredibly hard-working, very physical, great two-way forward and an extremely promising young defenseman for Jeff Carter?

Cleary and Meech are both great players, and there's chemistry to consider as well.

To bad Bobby Clarke hasn't run that team in a while now.

He's the one who signed Kesler to that outrageous offer sheet, and remember after he stepped down as GM he came back in some capacity, which means he still has clout within that front office. Sorta like Bowman within the realm of the Red Wings.

I don't want any current Flyer on the Wings. It's obvious to me they breed dirty players up there, and I don't want a dirty player on a team I support. Unless of course he could knock some sense into players I detest - Pronger, Giguere and Foote.

It would be nice to have a great NA player on our team and Carter could certainly become that player. Being Swedish myself I'm very happy that the team I started to cheer for back in 1993 have Lidström and Zetterberg and so many other Swedes. You guys deserve to have a great native of your own to cheer for... :D

Uh... we have way too many centers on this team.

dats, hank, Franzen, Draper, Kopecky, Filp... Hudler and Cleary were originally centers as well iirc but its been a while since they've played it.

Anyways, Carter is a good player, but I wouldn't give up too much for him. We have a strong core and we don't really need another center in any case. Filp for Carter might be acceptable, but anything more than that is iffy. Filp has already proven himself to be an extremely responsible defensive player, and you can see the offensive talent starting to emerge.... I guess I just don't like trading away a player that I know is pretty good and has a lot of potential for a player I haven't seen nearly as much. But perhaps some of you folks with center ice know better than I do in this case.

Sorry, but Flip, Draper, and whatever else you're calling a center there (Dats and Hank excluded) don't have top end talent like Carter does. That's become somewhat of a problem as the two top-end guys seemingly are joined at the head, leaving all those fans complaining about that lack of a second line and scoring depth. A young, talented center is exactly what this team needs. It's all moot however, because a trade like this would never happen.

I would make that trade. Meech is one of a stable full of of potential defensemen. The problem is that we already have Kronwall and Lebda ahed of him on the roster, and Kindl, Ericsson, Quincey, Smith, Pyett waiting in the Wings. Meech is the most expendable guy in that group.

If we can deal an expendable prospect and a 30-year old with one 20-goal season for a top end young player like Carter, we should do it. Carter's career high in goals is hiher than Cleary's, he's scored more in the past two seasons, and he's a quick skater who is also 6-4, 200 with a respectable defensive game. If you can get a guy like Carter without giving up anything important, you DO it.

As much as I love Cleary - you're so right. We need to balance out our top 2 lines and Carter could be the guy that enables us to do that.

I agree, but I think Philly would want so much more than Cleary and Meech. I think 29 other teams would and could offer them more than that.

Agreed. I love Cleary, but Carter may be the next Joe Thorton with his size and passing skill.

to get something good you gotta give up something good , what do you wanna give up ?? a bag of pucks ?? lol

if its true they want a defensive forward then maltby and draper due to age are out of the question , and it would have to be between cleary and franzen and id rather keep franzen

Agreed. I love Cleary, but Carter may be the next Joe Thorton with his size and passing skill.

dont know about the next joe thornton there ......even if hes just a 30-35 goal scorer his career with the size hes got and speed is something we would need

some of you said meech and cleary wouldnt be enough , if a 1st rounder was added you think it could help ?? or might we have to add in hudler ?

derek meech

daniel cleary

1st round pick

for jeff carter

or

daniel cleary

derek meech

jiri hudler

for jeff carter

Anyways all this talk is probably for nothing cause i seriously doubt the flyers are gonna trade carter , they'd be crazy to trade the guy at this stage

just saw this ....

FLYERS GM DENIES CARTER TRADE RUMOUR.

PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER: Tim Panaccio reports Flyers GM Paul Holmgren dismissed yesterday's TSN report that he might shop centre Jeff Carter, possibly to the Vancouver Canucks for Ryan Kesler.

Spector's Note: A poster on my message board cited several good reasons why this trade wouldn't happen, specifically the Flyers cap space, Carter's production this season, and the fact Jesse Boulerice crosschecked Kesler to the face last month earning a lengthy suspension.

not surprised

Cleary and Meech for Carter????? Come on people...

You wanna know what kind of trade value Meech has? He might get you a 5th round pick. I do like Cleary but theres no way in hell you get someone like Carter for him...thats ridiculous. Kesler is 23 years old in case you guys havent noticed, why are all of you thinking Cleary carries the same trade value he does? And even that would be probably be Kesler + for Carter.

It would have taken more than Kesler though I think. Carter could develop into something really good for Philly, why would they get rid of him? Unless the package they get in return is  then it ain't gonna happen. Well Luongo happened and I'm still extremely jealous at how cheaply they got a goalie like that...Freaky...
