Gizmo 21 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) Fans were lined up at the Joe for 1 1/2 hours for the $9 tickets to go on sale. Somebody in the Wings organization was thinking. From the Red Wings web site... Fans who battled the blistery weather conditions where also treated to more than hot cocoa and donuts. Members of the Wings’ marketing department handed out 15-month team calendars and pocket schedules. But the real surprise for Wings’ fans came when coach Mike Babcock and some players stopped by to greet the crowd. He was joined by forwards Tomas Kopecky and Aaron Downey, and defenseman Derek Meech. They handed out calendars, signed a few autographs and pose for pictures. “I wasn’t expecting that,†Brandon Mantay said. Babock fielded many questions from the fans in line. The most common questions seemed to concern the team’s goaltending situation and the health of center Kris Draper, who suffered a sprained left knee in Tuesday’s 5-3 win over Calgary. “Pro sports isn’t pro sports without the fans,†Babcock said. “It’s always been about the fans and it’s always going to be. It’s great that they can afford to come down here and it’s great that they’re willing to come out here and freeze to death and get tickets.†Edited November 28, 2007 by Gizmo

auxlepli 17 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 That's cool that Babcock and the players did that. I wonder if the writer meant blustery instead of blistery.

kylee 727 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 no offense to the Wings to give a surprise greeting to the people buying tickets, but if they really wanted something like this to work they would send out Zetterberg and Homer ( i would say Pavel too but his english isnt exactly "A+" although it is getting better...) Gizmo 21 Report post Posted November 28, 2007 While it would have been nice to have some top players out there, I'll cut them some slack and give them kudos for trying this. It also wouldn't surprise me if this were an ad hoc deal with Babs simply asking for some volunteers in the locker room. Whatever, it was a nice move! THEY DIDN"T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING THE PEOPLE WERE ALREADY THERE BUYING TICKETS! No kidding. To me it sounded like Babcock and the couple players with him just stopped by the line, not that it was some organized event.
