theman19 47 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I posted this in the Crosby thread but i really do want to know. I've never been sure how the three stars work in games, but this one boogles my mind. Pittsburg was playing AT philly. Pens get demolished 2-8 Crosby gets two assists and the third star, over umberger who got a hat trick? errr what? 1st star was lupul who had six points 2nd star was richards who had 3 assists. BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Yes, I saw this too, and I was outraged. I can put a 100% guarantee on the fact that Umberger will be an NHL.com 2nd star though.
omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Wow, it's pretty obvious really. Crosby's presence on the ice is more than enough to warrant him getting the 1st star vote every night. The fact that he dropped down to third tonight is a mere gesture of humility on his part, as he recognized the performance of two other players was far superior to his and asked to only receive the third star instead. are you ill yet? Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 (edited) Sucks for Umburger....they usually give at least one guy on the other team a pity star - and if they were going to choose, it would be Crosby with 2 apples. Great player. P.S. getting sick of all the Crosby hating on the boards this year...settle down - just cause he is young, famous, great at hockey, and ridiculously good looking, doesnt mean you guys have to have serious envy of the kid. Granted Umberger deserved a Star tonight - but no need to pile on to the Crosby trashing bus here. Its not like HE picked the stars guys. I was more trying to poke fun at the "OMG CROSBY CROSBY CROSBY CROSBY" in the media. I don't have a problem with Crosby because, unlike some stars of other sports, he doesn't relish the attention. At least he doesn't seem to. He just seems to accept that he has been labeled as the poster boy from hockey and plays his game. In that I think he's a lot like Yzerman(though Yzerman never got this much attention).
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 You guys complain about him getting so much attention, yet there's three ******* threads about him getting the third star. Exactly who is the real problem here? this is ridiculous. (see the other two threads about Crosby for the simple explanation of why he got named).
theman19 47 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 i'll point out, when i made mine it was the only one, but thanks for the heads up.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Yep, as stated earlier, Umberger got NHL.com's 2nd star of the night. http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app?page=ThreeStars...mp;service=page It's not so much about hatred on Crosby for getting a star, but moreso Umberger NOT getting one. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I have no problem with Crosby getting the 3rd star. You can't always go by stats. Umberger's 5 pts, you can't ignore and he should have been 2nd star over Richards, but Crosby as 3rd seems fair. I actually heard that they gave him the 3rd star to give the crowd one last chance to boo him. The 3 star selections from the games are normally pretty biased to the home team actually. Guest lnvincible Report post Posted December 12, 2007 "he doesn't relish the attention." Yes he does. If you go back to last year we would dive to make a highlight goal. He's just a show boat. I disagree with him being the best in the NHL , i believe hes one of the best for sure but def not the best. OVERRATED.

I disagree with him being the best in the NHL , i believe hes one of the best for sure but def not the best. OVERRATED. Last month, people thought Zetterberg was the best. This month people rate Vinnie as the best. I consider it statistically biased to be rating players as the best just because they are first in league scoring. When it comes to skill level, Crosby is the best. The way he sees the ice, the way he can hold the puck along the boards, his release, every skillset he has, he masters. When teams play Pittsburgh, their strategy is always "get Crosby." That may have something to do with the fact that he doesn't have 60 points by now.

I really don't know what the christ you're getting on about him "diving" to make a highlight goal. I'm betting you he had to dive to make that play but from your perspective he didn't have to because you're so good at hockey you could have made that play standing up. Compare him to superstars from other sports, who talk themselves up in the media and make outrageous statements. He's very well spoken and overall pretty humble. And yes, he is the best player in the national hockey league, there's no question about it at all.

Big thanks to Harold, BeeRyce and Omnipotent (hey, only Gordie is omnipotent around here ) for trying to talk some sense into Mr. Invincible. Crosby "overrated"? Sheesh, if I took the time to actually respond to you on this, you would not like what I had to say about you and I would probably get a month long ban from the site. Where do we find Invincible? Seriously, where do people like this spawn from? He ain't from hell because I would have seen him there already.
A.T.Hun 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 There's no way this kid is overrated. Agreed. For the life of me, I don't understand where the angst is coming from with Sid. I'll gladly watch any game that he's involved in because when he's on the ice, something is going to happen. Same thing with Alex Ovechin, who has the quietest 21 goals in the history of the NHL right now. It's a great time to be a Wings fan with Zetterberg and Datsyuk too. Hank will get something done by pure force of will, almost an Yzerman-junior. Pasha will do something that, even when you watch the slo-mo replay, you'll say, "How the heck did he do that?" There are some really awesome young stars in the game today. It's a great time to be an NHL fan.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I'm glad other people here are getting just as fed up with the bitching and whining about Crosby. You complain about how much attention he gets - yet there are 4 or 5 threads about the same thing going on at once. Get over it, and lets talk about the Red Wings.
