Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted December 19, 2007 This shows how important timing is when colleges have to hire a coach in any sport. If WVU would have beat Pitt they would be in the title game, and not LSU. If this would have happened Miles would be coaching U-M right now, and not Rod. Unless Miles was gonna stay at WV no matter what. Which is possible. In which case, Michigan probably would have waited for Rodriguez. My gut tells me Miles was staying regardless, and Rich was heading for Michigan regardless. I could be wrong. But thats the vibe I get.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 Im kinda worried that we wont get a QB/RB who fit his offence though.. Cone isnt exactly that great on his feet. and Our RB's are less then stellar. Time to check rivals.com see if we got any promising freshman.
Matt 1,049 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 If WV had beaten Pitt, Miles would be HC at Michigan, IMO. As it turns out I don't mind at all -- I absolutely love Miles' passion but I think Rodriguez is the better coach.

Time to check rivals.com see if we got any promising freshman. I wouldn't worry about that. We got Carlos Brown, Kevin Grady, Brandon Minor, and Avery Horn at RB. Brown/Horn got jets on them like Slaton, and Grady/Minor are power backs. At least 2 will pop out strong as the season starts. I'm also not so worried about Mallett. I think it's all up to him on how much he wants to improve, and if he has the right attitude he will be alright. Look at Sean Kings stats under Rogriguez (RR's last pocket passer) - 3,232 pass yards, 36 TDs, 6 INTS - Broke 1-A record for pass efficiency with 183.3 (previous record was Florida's Danny Wuerffel) - Ended season with 204 consective pass attempts without throwing an INT (23 quarters of play) - Completed 222 of 327 pass attempts (67.9%) Also at Glenville State his QB would sometimes throw the ball 50 times a game. He can adjust to his personal. Sure there will be growing pains, and ups/downs, but overall I don't think it will be a huge transition. Matt 1,049 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 Don't forget that McGuffie is likely to stay committed to UM as it appears Fred Jackson will be retained, plus -- judging by stories coming out from HS coaches, etc. -- Pryor could be a virtual LOCK to commit in February. Book it. Not a bad recruiting class when you consider that the Wolverines are likely to land both the No. 1-rated all-purpose RB and top-rated QB who's been drawing comparisons to Vince Young the last couple of years. Still remains the question of a spread offense doing well in the Big Ten. Look at Northwestern and Purdue as examples. Yes, they put up exciting numbers and are a fun team to watch, but how successful are they. I think Michigan will be a little bit different tho based on the ability to recruit better talent. That is true. Although I think if NW had more talent they would be lethal because their offense can play with anyone if they show up to play. Many people point to RR, and John L Smith, but I think that is a bad example. I look more at Illinois, and Ohio State's offense when they had Troy Smith for how the offense is going to be ran. You're that confident on Pryor huh? I can only hope! I watched his film last night, and it was beyond amazing. McGuffie/Pryor would be Slaton/White on steriods! mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted December 21, 2007 RR just cleaned house on the whole current U-M staff, and I am NOT happy with it. I know it's all up to him now, but I hope he realized that there were some dang good coaches on Carr's staff. Loeffler, Jackson, and Cambell are some of the best coaches/recruiters in the country. Not happy at all unless he somehow hires a better coach.

Course, I am glad that Jackson's back. Can't complain about that either. All indications are that McGuffie and Cissoko are still committed. So far so good.
