Transcript of Babcock's interview

I didn't see this article posted anywhere, so

Babcock: When Lidstrom goes, so will Holland

IMO an excellent read.

Very enlightening.

Also, I think Lidstrom would make a terrific GM. An article was posted on here saying that if he wasn't a hockey player, he would have been Prime Minister of Sweden or the Manager of the Greatest bank in the world.

Do people here think he has the capability to replace Holland?

First, I'm pretty sure Holland was joking, pointing out how much harder it is going to be to win without Lidstrom. I'm not even really sure that we as Red Wings fans will realize until he's gone how much of an impact #5 has on our team.

Second, I think he could probably have a front office position. I'm pretty sure Yzerman is being groomed for GM, but Lidstrom could be an assistant or be the manager of our Swedish scouting team etc.

I don't think there's any implication that Lidstrom will replace Holland. Most likely, If Holland decides to retire when Lidstrom retires, Holland will be moved up to a position similar to Jim Devallano's, Nill will be moved to GM and Yzerman will move to asst GM.

When I said 'very enlightening,' I was being a little sarcastic. We've seen all the quotes several times lately.

As for the Lids comment, it was just a long-term future hypothetical.

Finally, I'm sure we will be fine without Lids, just not great. Off-seasons will be a good possibility.

yea lids makes such a difference, he has such a calming factor....our defense is gonna look really different without #5 and #24 when they retire, i dont think holland will retire when lids is gone but i think he will start grooming a replacement such as stevie or nick

Im kinda anxious for 5,24 to retire just to see what youngins step it up a knotch and who becomes our future leaders of our defence..

I thought it was cool that Babcock thinks Dats is the best in the league, but i'm not sure I can agree with it. Either way, Datsyuk is my favorite player.

Babs was talking about right now, in the recent stretch of games, not overall on the season, and I agree with him. Datsyuk is playing out of his mind, dangerous, dangerous hockey. He has always been incredible, but in the recent stretch of games, he has been scoring goal, setting up plays, playing defensively, at an entirely other level. He started the season with decent point production, all off of assists with only 2 goals in the first chunk of 15-20 games, and since then he has been producing near a goal and an assist a game, not to mention his superb defensive play. I agree with Babcock that RIGHT NOW, Pavel Datsyuk is the most dangerous forward in the game.
