Wings to make offer for Sundin?

I would give up Lebda in a Sundin deal no problem.

I don't think the Leafs would have much use for him. Lots of "decent" defencemen in the system, they don't need another one at the moment.

The Leafs would prefer a top-end forward prospect as the big prize of a Sundin trade, but Detoit really doesn't have one, so I doubt they'd do a deal that did not include Kindl.

The Leafs are falling fast, sitting 4th-last in the league and dropping.

If you're thinking of getting Mats Sundin for average roster players and mid-level prospects, you're dreaming. Mats has been the heart & soul of the Leafs for almost 15 years, he's their all-time leader in all offensive categories (except assists) he's been the captain for 10 years and he's currently in the top-15 in NHL scoring. Players like that are not given away.

His trade return is similar to Forsberg, but I believe it's higher because there's fewer rental options on this year's deadline sellers and Mats does not have the injury concerns that Forsberg did.

Also, I don't think Mats would hold the Leafs hostage in terms of where he'd go. Obviously, he'd want to go to a contender, but he isn't the type of guy to restrict it to 2 or 3 teams. He just doesn't operate that way.

^^

Agreed. Just take what Nashville gave up for Forsberg as a base, and add an additional 1st or good, quality prospect.

I don't know. As much as I like Sundin and all, the rental price seems to high. But then I'm not the GM. I wouldn't mind throwing early round draft picks knowing how deep we've been able to find quality players before. Just the fact of what Lebda, Hudler, and Howard could do in the future makes it too steep for my blood.

What in the world would Toronto fans do with Sundin going to all places, Detroit? Just curious.

I agree 100%. I was just saying Lebda as part of a deal. The other poster mentioned that Lebda was untouchable with I thought was silly.

That's a joke, right?

If you want Mats Sundin, you're going to have to give up something to get him.

why is that a joke ??

emmerton ( top 6 forward)

pyett ( got potential ) or meech ( nhl ready , and leafs suck on defence)

helm ( good defensive forward )

1st round pick

for a rental player

wtf you wanna give

howard

kindl

helm

1st rd pick ??

no team is gonna give up 2 top prospects for a rental player , no team that mats sundin would wanna go to anyways ..... if thats not enough to get mats sundin then the hell with him , not worth giving our top guys for a rental

Intresting tho id rather give a 1st than hudler ( i just like him)

Perfer to risk it with forsberg so we dont give up any assests.

yup if forsberg decides he can play then hes #1

Lebda? Are you kidding? He is young and fast and plays hard every night. And who would you replace him with?

No. Lebda isn't going anywhere

well i put lebda incase we need to give up someone on the roster with any real value that we might be able to part with , they wont want samuelsson ...... id might be able to part with lebda because we got alot of depth on defense in my opinion , with meech, kindl, quincey, ericsson, smith, pyett ........ we can then make a trade for blake or some other physical d man , but obviously id rather keep lebda , and realistically i know he wont go anywhere , im just saying ....

When I (and 99% of Finns) think of a really annoying hockey player, two come to mind:

Forsberg and Sundin.

There has to be someone else... :puke:

That wouldn't happen to have anything to do with the fact that they're Swedish, would it?

I can see where you're coming from with Forsberg, but not at all with Sundin. Seems like a great guy to me.

None of those players have 1st line or first pairing potential, which is what the Leafs will get as the centerpiece to the trade. Like I said before, the Leafs probably won't do a deal that doesn't include Kindl.

They have to get top value for Sundin because this is the move that sets the tone for the rebuilding phase.

someone was talkin about what nashville gave up for philly ???

Forsberg, 33, was peddled to the Predators in exchange for forward Scottie Upshall, OHL defenceman Ryan Parent and first- and third-round draft picks.

scott upshall ........ i dont even think hes a top 6 forward .... emmerton has top 6 potential and offensive talent

ryan parent ...... i dont know how hes doing but i dont think hed be that much better then a meech or pyett , maybe parent would be a 4th defencemen at the highest

and 2 picks

its that hard to believe

emmerton

meech

helm

and a 1st rd pick would be enough ??

No, Sundin has more value than Forsberg.

Too many clutch goals against us. <_<

Resulted into a not-so-nice song about him and the Finnish fans holding "Sundin & Forsberg - Just married" signs.

I guess we shall never forget.

Yeah, but '08 picks have more value than those '07 picks did.

and as good as sundin started the year hes cooled off ...... and forsberg is forsberg hes won the cup and knows what it takes to win , hes a winner , sundin has won crap playin for that leafs team ....... i dont think sundin is gonna get 2 top prospects another player and 2 picks or whatever it is that guy thinks the leafs will get

If your comparing Forsbergs return to Sundins, then Mats wont move. Because it would cost much more because, Mats is a better player and is less injury prone.

I could see 2 top potential prospects, top 6 and bottom 6 forward, 1st round pick and a low round pick. Possibly more.

Won't happen... The Wings have enough scoring punch as it is. Hopefully Kenny goes for D for depth and in case of injuries. We need to stick with our prospects and stop all this nonsense. The last time we swiped a Leaf didn't work out so well...

If you actually believe that the trade value of Derek Meech and Cory Emmerton is the equivalent to what Scottie Upshall and Ryan Parent were, i dont really know what to say other than you're way off.

I'll be bouncing off the walls if we end up snagging Sundin. That would be the perfect player to go for. Sundin would be perfect in our system. And his physical presence would be a big help as well. God I hope this happens.

upshall is 24 yrs old , his highest point total in his career is 24 pts and hes on pace for 27 ....... ya hes so much better then emmerton , thats why holland talks highly about him and hes one of our top ranked prospects

ryan parent i dont know much about but then again its basically meech or pyett and helm so its 2 for one

There is not one single can't-miss prospect in the system. I know what potential is there, but up and down the list there is absolutely nobody you can look at and guarantee will be an everyday player in the NHL. Closest we have is Howard, who I expect is good enough to be at least a backup, but you never know.

Therefore I expect it will probably take a player off the roster to get Sundin. This Emmerton-Pyett-Helm stuff won't cut it and we can stop pretending it will. As long as we don't give up Flip, I would just drool to have Sundin in the Winged Wheel.
