auxlepli 17 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Congrats to Chelios. I remember the trade, but never took the time to think it's been eight years. Time flies.

HoweHatTrick 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 They made mention of it at the game lat night during one of his first shifts. He looked up and the screen, smiled, and shook his head. Then the crowd gave him a standing ovation, it was fantastic!

Then the crowd gave him a standing ovation, it was fantastic! It was great last night. He got a wonderful long standing ovation. Did they show it on VS. last night? I know when they announced it they were on break but we were standing and cheering well into the time they came back from break.

Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Those of us watching on Versus caught the tail end of it. As for retiring jerseys, I think his belongs in Chicago. I love Chelly but that's where he was during his greatest years.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Yeah, but we got him one of his Cups. I wonder how many other guys currently playing have played for at least three Original Six teams. Better yet, gone to the Stanley Cup Finals with three of them. It looked like he wanted to get into a fight last night! The refs broke things up before anything could get going, though. Turkey 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 I never really expect Chelly to fight. He's very good at looking like he's going to fight but he never seems to struggle when the refs intervene. He does a lot of shouting over the ref's shoulder. Chelly is an agitator and always has been. Not too shy with the dirty stick work from time to time either. I kind of love that about him. He pisses the opposition off in a big way but he does it by hitting to enrage rather than to injure.
Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 (edited) 24 won't be retired for Cheli in Detroit. A dual retiring maybe, but I am dreaming. Edited January 9, 2008 by Wings_Dynasty
Opie 308 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Wings_Dynasty hit it on the head, maybe if he had played his whole career or 15 seasons in Detroit, but I don't see it happening unless he plays another 6 years or so.
