Swedish 8 ? (or 9 when we sign Sundin, too)

I just am not sold on an injury prone rental. I want an enforcer. That I believe is what we need.

Forsberg will only return if hes capable to play on the highest level, every team would like to have world class player like him. If he signs with Red Wings, I would be very happy but I think its unlikely to happen.

Because he'll play like 5 games for us. Yeah, he'll average over a point per game, but what good is that in the long run. Besides, too many Wings fans hate him, myself included.

I don't think any GM worth their salt would bear that in mind at all when considering signing any player. The GM's job is to build a winning team, not fan the dying flames of a long cold rivalry.

I don't know that I'd want to see the Wings sign Forsberg, unless it was a total steal, but my reservations are more related to his ability or inability to play hockey. You know, the relevant stuff.

O.K. But the first part of my response was more than relevant enough for why he shouldn't be signed. Yeah, we wouldn't have to trade anybody, but it would still be a resource wasted on someone who doesn't help us. Hell, last year everyone thought trading away Matthias for Bertuzzi wasn't a big gamble, yet it turned out to be one. The Wings need the cap space to go after a guy that can help, not some vegetable who's always hurt.

I don't really think your comments are as relevant as much they are biased and skewed. The guy the last two years he played was 60 and 57 games. Not very sure where you got 5. Secondly, the 2005 season 60 games played - 75 points.... The 2006 57 games played and 55 points. Not very bad point to game ratio and definitely not vegetable like.

So you're admitting that he never plays even 70% of the games. How is that good for any team? That basically fits the definition of someone who's injury prone. Yeah, I'm a bit biased on Floppa, but what I'm preaching isn't exactly an original idea. Everyone knows of his injury problems.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a huge advocate on Forsberg. I didn't say he wasn't injury prone. I'm just saying some of these facts/stats you're coming up with are innaccurate and seem to be based more on a dislike for the guy rather than solid reasons why we shouldn't.

I say sign him.

Scenario 1: We sign him, he comes back, plays hard, stays healthy, adds a new level to an already lethal scoring threat and proves all the nay-sayers wrong.

Scenario 2: We sign him, he comes back, is lazy, gets injured, sits out the rest of the season and gives ALL Wings fans yet another reason to hate him.

I say it's a WIN-WIN situation!!!

if we can get him cheap enough due to the fact that he wants to go to a winning team (and we are/will be the best in the league) just let him ride the pine til the first round and let him play until he tears something.

no harm no foul if he comes cheap and isn't reliable. worth the risk I'd say....

That is unless it interferes with us signing Fedorov??? :)

those are pretty good points.

As always, health is the absolute biggest question mark with Forsberg. If the Wings can be reasonably certain he can make it through a playoff run, hell yes I'd want him.

Not to get off topic but we can only rehabiltate one former Red Wing a year, last year it was Dom...this year is Mac's turn. I think Fed's will have to wait.

I say sign him. There's almost no risk since the Wings would be signing him instead of giving up assets for him. If he's reasonably healthy, there's a chance he can dominate games in the post-season like he has in the past. At the very least, he's going to be productive and he has a ton of playoff experience. The best part of having Forsberg would be the ability to re-unite Datsyuk and Zetterberg. If he ends up getting hurt, the Wings are out nothing but money and they go with what they've got up front...which is what a lot of people want to do anyway.

I'd sign Forsberg and trade for a physical defenseman.

How's this for a top-six?

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom

Cleary-Forsberg-Filppula/Hudler

QFT

People hated Chelios a hell of a lot more than anyone hates Foresberg right now for past reasons. On top of that he'll come without the Wings having to give up anything aside from money.
