NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted January 30, 2008 Seeing Blaker in a Wing uniform will look strange...but IMO Detroit should just stick to the team they have now. They should have learned their lesson in the Bertuzzi / Calder deals last season. And that was 11 years ago, If Detroit thinks adding more old , out of prime players to their roster will help them win a cup, they are indeed mistaken. Except for the fact that Bert and Calder cost the Wings practically nothing. Anyone can play the what-if game when it comes to Mattias but, there are 15+ other teams out there that all made "mistakes" given that their team didn't win the cup. Of all the players/picks that were exchanged this past deadline, I'd say Kenny did better than most. As for the McCarty comment, I'm his biggest fan but I agree that its not the solution or even something thats probably going to happen. Even if it did, I don't think it will bolster this years lineup any more than a guy like Drake does.

Bertuzzi was a gamble, and Holland lost when Burke overpaid for him. As for Calder though, that was still a good deal. It wasn't just about acquiring Calder remember, it was about getting rid of Williams, who had another year left on his contract, whereas Calder was a UFA at the end of the season. That move was a contract dump. If Calder worked out, hey great. He didn't. But the Wings still came out ahead on that one.
