No Respect For Wings? TSN's First Half Review

I think that, after reading that article, a bigger question comes to mind: who, and why, the hell did anyone ever compared the Senators to the Montreal Canadians dynasty's of the 1970's? The Senators have never even won a Cup yet, and have no where near the star power those teams had.

The Canadian media blows. A Canadian hockey team hasn't won a Cup in, what has it been, 14 years now, and yet they still act like Canada has dominated hockey. Maybe in terms of the WJC, and the 2002 Olympics, but besides that, hockey Canada hasn't done s*** is forever. They need to get off their high horse already.

I especially found it funny that, a couple of days ago, after the Maple Leafs beat the Washington Capitals on Cliff Fletchers first game of being GM, the Toronto sports headlines read "The Magic's Back!!!". I don't know about anyone else here, but I don't see how one win can all of a sudden qualify a team as being back into it. Their still 14th or something in the Conference, still under .500, and they still are miles out of being in the playoffs. The stuff that goes on up there is ridiculous.

The Canadian media sucks, plain and simple. Their all just mad homers that sit around and say what they want to happen. I don't really care that they sit and curl the Wings coattails for them, because quite frankly, the Wings still haven't proven anything yet. We've seen this movie many times before: Wings do well in the regular season, only to lay a dinosaur egg in the playoffs.

The part that really bothers me is the overrating of Canadian teams. With the exception of Ottawa (the notorious playoff chokers) and maybe Montreal, no Canadain team really has a shot at the Cup. Vancouver could if they ever found scoring, but their a one man show up there. Yet, the Canadian media portrays the situation as if all Canadian teams are vastly superior to American teams. It's not based off of anything, just what they'd want to see, which is the part that is really frustrating and stupid.

Well....it's Canadia.

you have to remember hockey is pretty big and has importance of canadian culture.

but it is TSN to job to sell to story that people will read, I just wish that they don't get caught up too much and simply act like an idiot and with pure jealousy.

And they lost, to Washington, the next night. :yowza:

I could really care less one way or the other if the Wings are given respect or no respect at all by media outlets. It's not worth me wasting my time paying too much attention to media outlets in super-duper detail and getting my underwear in bunches being pissed off at them if they don't pay that much attention to the Wings or whatever, because it doesn't change squat on the ice on what the Wings have/haven't done.

I know the Wings are good, I respect them, I don't need to go out on a marketing campaign broadcasting how great they are all the time towards people. It's not worth my time/effort, and it's not worth getting heartburn over if other people aren't kissing their butts all the time either. I cannot control what they say or not say, and if I ever ranted and moaned over such things, it will not help or change anything at all and their opinions will not change from my ranting.

I enjoy them and know they are good, that's enough for me to be satisfied with.

Has anyone watched Barry Melrose's take on the Wings-Ducks game the other night? He should just have a segment called: Barry Hates the Red Wings. It can be a nightly wrap up show of how bad the weak Red Wings are and that winning isn't everything. Check it out....

http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/...91&n8pe6c=2

"This is a message"

"Typical message sending"

"Message the Ducks sent was more important than wins and losses"

Really? What happened to no one asking "how" just "how many"?

Yeah, the Ducks sent a big message. I think it said "Winning?! No one cares about winning. We just like watching our guy beat up a guy 7 inches smaller than he is. And Parros has an awesome moustache so take that!" If only that somehow factors into the standings. Just imagine, the playoff seeding decided on who has the most moral victories.

I enjoyed these rankings much better at si.com

West:

East:

Mostly because they give us an A+ :D

(and there's a nice article on Babcock on the front NHL page there.)

My favorite part besides all the Red Wings considered "Hardware Hopefuls" is the fact that under the same category on the Penguins sheet is a big fat NONE

Oh, yeah, I forgot that Ottawa's amazing cup win has bought them the respect of the league.

The Wings are expected to be where they are at right now. And that goes for every season.
