SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Damn straight! As long as the play of either goalie doesn't drop off much, I could care less who starts in the playoffs. Even if 1 of them might struggle down the stretch, the Wings still have it as good as it gets in terms of the 'tending situation. Both goaltenders have won a Cup (in separate occassions), both have a boatload of wins so they have loads of experience, and both seem to have a great working relationship with each other and set any egos aside and seem to worry primarily just about winning. :goalie1: Osgood + :goalie2: Hasek = A damned good goalie tandem

Stu in Israel 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Dear SouthernWingsFan, You're one of my favorite posters. Your comments are always cogent and incisive and I always learn things from you, so I hope you won't be offended at a correction. The expression is "couldN'T care less." Think about the difference in meaning and you'll understand why. By the way, occasion has one "s." (and) Yes, we have been blessed in goaltenders this year! kozac 10 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I just hope we don't end up being like Ottawa with Thibault and Rhodes. Excellent during the season, big failure during the playoffs.

pjgj13 30 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Also, in the last 33/34 games, the Wings have 7 shut outs. Thanksgiving Eve against the Blues to last night. Pretty impressive.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 I just hope we don't end up being like Ottawa with Thibault and Rhodes. Excellent during the season, big failure during the playoffs. LALIME and Rhodes never had success in Ottawa, but they never had success on other teams either. Both Hasek and Osgood have played very well in the postseason both for Detroit and other teams. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Ok, so does everyone involved with the Ozzie vs Dom thing feel kind of stupid now. Both our goaltenders have always been kickass. We know what they're capable of. They've both won The Cup before and now that they've had great seasons, I think they're ready to do it again. Even if one chokes during the stretch(unlikely) the other can start the playoffs. Babs can't go wrong eaither way.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Not to diminsh Hasek's recent performance...but I think it bears mentioning that if Hasek had seen the number of shots per game Osgood has seen over the season and stopped them at the same rate he has so far, his GAA would be close to 2.4. Reversing that, if Osgood had the same save percentage on Hasek's shots, his GAA would be close to 1.60. That said, there's over two months left to play and plenty of time for either guy to really grab the playoff starter spot.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 Im starting to believe, that keeping next year in mind, they may go with Osgood in the playoffs but keep him on a VERY short leash. I think they'll want to know how Osgood will perform playoff time, or if they'll need to pursue a free agent netminder next season. IMO Hasek should be the guy, but it would make sense for the future to give Osgood the first crack and see what he does.
tony 3 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 this is great but you also gotta look at the shots the wings give up per game leclaire and luongo face alot more shots BUT WE STILL RULE ALL THERE ASSES

Good on both of them, even though I'm not fond of either of them.
Yzermaniac192005 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2008 This is just further proof, to me, that come playoff time, we should continue this switch off with the goalies. I don't understand why people think once the playoffs start, you MUST have a #1 goalie. If these two are feeding off one another and having friendly competition (which I totally believe is the case here) then lets keep it going in the playoffs. I'm tellin ya, Ozzie has a chip on his shoulder for us releasing him, for Dom, and Dom's got a chip because he's not the #1 goalie, full time. Just keep switching off, it really should work.
