I'm just curious why we'd put up Kronner if the Wings are alreadying looking to improve their D's physicality. I'm not saying Kronwall is like our Chara or something, but he can lay out some pretty sweet hits. We already lack in being physical, so I don't think it'd help if we got rid of him.

Kronwall is a great all-around defenseman, we have him lined up on a sweet contract, and he's improving by the week. I see no reason to get rid of him.

Yes, he certainly does have a physical side, and it will improve as he continues to add bulk to his frame.

Jokinen is the kind of trade that would not surprise me at all, but to think we would only have to give up 1 dressed player is madness. Hossa definitely won't happen.

Sundin is possible, but probably won't happen. I see him in Toronto in March. But... Swedes apparently like playing with other Swedes. So Sundin and Forsberg are possibilities. Sundin more so. I think Foppa will be in either Philly or Denver before Detroit. Anaheim and Vancouver will also be options.

What it all comes down to is this question: is this team in need of a deadline acquisition to the degree that it is worth giving up a significant value in draft picks and prospects for that acquisition?

The answer: as this team stands right now, any acquisition requiring a large fee in return will not be so necessary as to justify the price. We could certainly acquire Hossa, Sundin, or even Jokinen. However, would we be willing to pay the price necessary for those players? Probably not.

As for Swedes/Forsberg: I have read that Forsberg does not have any sort of close relationship with any of the Swedish Wings (Lidstrom said so), and that the presence of the many Swedes on the team does not hold any real attraction for Forsberg.

Rarely does Ken add anything but well-experienced vets at the deadline. You just know its likely gonna be Sundin. like where else is he gonna go? Mats holds that no-trade clause... would he burn it up just to fade away in Vancouver?? Mats is gonna play all out... he's still after a Cup and more importantly, after a new contract.

Where else is Holland going to go? Well, most likely he'll go to nobody. Again, I don't understand what says that the Wings need to and will, beyond a shadow of a doubt make a huge deal at the deadline.

Do you remember that EVERY big deadline deal last season was a bust?

Hmm... Calder and Bertuzzi. sure in hindsight, this was a bust. but we did make the third round for the first time in four years. this hardly qualifies as aversion theraphy, rather it probably reinforces those types of moves.

Bertuzzi: a SMALL factor. None of his contributions came in games that we won, and he made some very significant mistakes. Too, at times his back limited him to less than ten minutes on the ice per night.

Calder: As I recall, he had only two points (maybe it was one); by the third round he had been benched in favor of Kopecky, a first-year player who had not played since January.

The others (as concerned their playoff play):

Tkachuk: A non-factor.

Forsberg: A non-factor.

Guerin: A non-factor.

Smyth: A non-factor.

There you go.

Last year we NEEDED more secondary scoring. Bert and Calder were picked up for this, although the trade for Calder was as much to unload Williams as anything. Those two deals were both minor. This year, we're much less in need of anything than we were last year---and by your logic, we're thus going to see MORE movement? I don't get it.

Jokinen is great, but somehow I doubt Florida would trade away their bargain-salaried captain while they're within 6 points of a playoff spot.

I would be quite content to see Holland avoid the big-name deadliners altogether and just look for a nice reasonably-priced 2nd/3rd-pairing defenseman or 3rd liner...let someone else pay out the ass with young talent and high picks for a broken down Rob Blake, overpriced Marian Hossa, or Mr. I-only-want-to-play-for-Toronto Mats Sundin. There aren't going to be a lot of sellers out there with the standings the way they are, and whoever does decide to sell will command bigtime prices...if nothing worthwhile is available, then so be it. If there's one team in the league who isn't under pressure to force a deadline deal, it's Detroit.

A solid puck moving vet D and a 2/3 line winger is what Kenny will be looking to get in.

Forget all the big names floating around as Ken won't give up roster players to pick up

a star rental. The only star he may look at is Foppa and that is because he won't cost

anything apart from his salary. Think about it, we give up Franzen Hudler and a 1st R to

pick up Hossa, because that's what the Thrasher's would want at least. Next year Hossa

signs elsewhere and we are looking at re-loading again from our minors or getting in new

guys who'll have to adapt to the way the Wings play. If we win the Cup with Hossa then

all is sweet till the new season. The only way anytrade like that will happen is if Hossa or

whoever commits to signing longterm before we offload anyone in a package. Now if Foppa

is match fit and ready to go, the reason he is coming back is to win Stanley, nothing else. He

dosen't need the cash, so where would he most likely go to fulfill his wish? To me there's no

better place than our Joe. He'll be playing with half of team Sweden, which makes it easier to

fit in quickly. Sure his old side in Philly would be a good fit too. There playing well and he has

stated he'd like to go back, but are they a better bet than the Wings to go all the way. I think

you can write off the Av's, they may even miss the cut and even with Sakic and Smyth back it

will be a big task for them to go very deep in the post season. Maybe the history between us

and the Av's may put Foppa off from signing for us but he looks the best bet to fill that scoring

role on the 2nd line. Still in 22 days we'll all be more the wiser.

give it up already, bub. what logic dictates and what actually will happen are two different worlds. this is Detroit, where overkill is where its at! Kenny will make a move... i just hope its something more constructive than adding sentimental favorite McCarty.
