Nice to hear people thinking about the price tag ofCammalleri.

3.1 this year and 3.6 next (also the year before Z's new contract!)

nothing too steep with that.

Stuart is a UFA at seasons end so that doesn't matter.

Plus when you take away the salaries that will go the other way I see no reason why Camma's contract is that big of a deal.

I wouldn't mind getting Hossa / Fedorov and Modry...

I've seen Brad Stuart play quite a bit this year (I live in LA) and I tell you what, he's not that great. He gives the puck away way more than Bryan Rafalski (if you can believe that) and he is caught out of position just as much... I'll take Rafalski any day, as long as he's not paired with Stuart.

Stuart would be a great addition with the Kronwall situation going to IR!

The only reason Kronwall went on IR was to make a roster spot for Howard since the club is limited to 23. He can be moved off it at any time (provided Howard is sent back down) since it was retroactive to January 30th.

why would the kings be looking to move cammalleri? he's only 25 and locked up for another year ...

1) Someone else brought up his name, I was responding to that.

2) He already went to arbitration with them once, and got less than he wanted.

3) They suck, and if they can get a couple of young prospects to go along or a couple of young roster players it would be better than one young player on a team loaded with ok talent.

4) Why would the Pheonix suns trade Marion for Shaq, why would the Twins trade Santana for 4 prospects, why would the Thrash trade Hossa, why would Florida trade Jokinen, Why would Holland go out and get Bert?

If you are asking me to apply logic to the trades that happen or the things that GM in pro sports do I can not.

sorry, i wasn't suggesting it was your idea, just hadn't heard his name mentioned much, was wondering if there was something else afoot with him ...

as to #4, i think the suns think they need a big inside presence to win (not sure he's it), don't know (or care) about the twins, atlanta would trade hossa if they don't think they can re-sign him (and it doesn't sound like he has a lot of confidence in the organization's ability to ice a winner), florida isn't doing much and might part with jokinen if they commit to rebuilding, and holland took a gamble on bert being a healthy physical power forward to help us win the cup ... the logic is there, they just don't always work ...

Because his value is high right now, but his cost is increasing rapidly and they might look to capitalize on it now and get cheaper pieces that could serve as complementary pieces in a rebuilding process rather than get long-term prospects or picks next year or maybe less if his 08-09 season is disappointing in any fashion.

4) Why would the Pheonix suns trade Marion for Shaq

Because even though Shaq is not what he was, with his size and skill he is still a matchup problem for any team but Chicago, as the only player who has consistently been able to cover Shaq in single coverage the past few years is Ben Wallace. Having Shaq on the Suns forces the opponent to either double Shaq and let the quick offense run by Nash have a man advantage, or to put Shaq in single coverage and completely concede the post. Marion was a small price to pay if it works out as expected.

why would the Twins trade Santana for 4 prospects

Because they couldn't afford to keep him, and those four prospects together are more likely to help in the long-term than Santana by himself. For a team with money problems and no hopes of contending in the immediate future, dropping a single high-priced player for several high-caliber prospects who can help a great deal a few years down the line is a good move.

why would the Thrash trade Hossa

If Atlanta doesn't expect to be able to retain Hossa, and their chances of making/winning playoffs looks slim, They will likely deal Hossa for a blue chip prospect or two. If they expect to not sign Hossa, and have a great shot at the playoffs, they will deal Hossa for roster players who can help right away.

why would Florida trade Jokinen

If they feel trading one first line center will get them several solid players and prospects to aid in the rebuilding process alongside guys liek Weiss, Norton, and Bouwmeester...they'll do it.

Why would Holland go out and get Bert?

If you are asking me to apply logic to the trades that happen or the things that GM in pro sports do I can not.

Because Bert at last check had been one of the most physically dominant players in the league, and that was the only thing the Wings really lacked up front. The price was cheap; all the Wings gave up was a projected depth forward and a couple picks.

Thanks for the help Eva, I think you were helping.

My point in all of that was that if you look at a trade at face value it may not makes sense. For instance the Run and Gun Suns getting a big slow center that hasn't played in weeks, and give up a great power forward and a very fast but turn over proned PG.

But when you look at the finer details you would find out that Shaq and Riley were not getting along recently, the Suns needed to combat the Gasol move, Marion was not going to be easy for them to keep happy after months and months of trade talks involving his name.

I think a combo of D-wade and Marion will be great next year. All they need is a serviceable big man.

But back to Hockey, it is hard to say why any GM makes any trade. It is very rare that trades work out for both sides in the long run. Short term they may work out but after the season is over generally one team got the short end. Either in a Tkachuk type thing where the rental leaves you to go back to where you just sent players. Or a Bert manner where some one gets hurt.

Even the Penner deal, after this year he looks over paid, and it will look even worse if ANA gets a Flip-Huds type player with that pick (by fans) nevermind if they get the next Crosby or Ovechkin with that pick.

But either way, there is a lot more that goes into these deals then we as fans even consider.

But I would still love Camma on the wings!
