Lundqvist Gets New Deal

Pretty good deal. It's always good to lock a goalie, and I'd say Lundqvist is a franchise goalie. Some people could say gamble considering on paper, his numbers have decreased since his rookie season, but it's not a bad signing.

I think Al Montoya will be traded before he ever gets a chance to play in NYR. At the end of the day, he's really good trade bait, he's a future franchise goalie and probably the most promising up and comer.

Rangers always had decent goaltending.

Beezer, Richter, Lundqvist.

Good signing.

Blackburn too, although they rushed him into the NHL too quickly and prematurely ended his career.

Good to see Lundqvist get a good deal.

Wait wasn't the only reason Montoya started over Howard at the World Cup because Howard tweaked his knee stepping on a puck in shoot around at practice?

As far as I know Howard has always been higher ranked than Montoya as a prospect?

The thing that bugs me a little is that I think this deal makes him the highest paid goalie in the league, which doesn't quite sit well with me.

Then again, the contracts of the other top tier goalies are a little more dated, making them not exactly comparable, but I still don't like the optics.

I think this all but assures that Montoya is on his way out. If the Rangers think they can make a push at the playoffs, then he is major trade bait at the deadline.
