Datsyukian Geek 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Okay, maybe it's just me, but I've seen NOTHING this season to make me believe in the allure of Derek Meech. I don't see him bringing anything valuable to the team everytime I watch him. WTF happened to Kyle Quincey? I'd rather have him up on the D-line and either drop Meech back down to GR or offer him as part of a trade proposal.

I'd rather have him up on the D-line and either drop Meech back down to GR or offer him as part of a trade proposal. Quincey has actually had a nice run the past few in GR. He has been throwing blows a bit too. A couple of scraps in a couple games...
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Yeah, I dont think Meech is gonna be a big part of our future. He's not making many mistakes though, he's just filling the position as best he can. Sometimes it takes defensemen a little longer to develop, especially in the eyes of the fans. frederick9125 0 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 to send meech down he would have to clear waivers 1st, then we'd lose him for nothing
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 No no. Meech will be the cornerstone of a deal for Hossa.
Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 No no. Meech will be the cornerstone of a deal for Hossa. Packaged with Sammy of course. We could probably even get Kovy too for that package.
umredwing11 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Meech doesn't turn the puck over a whole lot, but then again he doesn't do anything very productive. He does not offensive presence (his shot looks like it is in slow-mo), which I guess wouldn't be a huge problem if he had some other upside to him, maybe like penalty kill or something. I know he is young, but never once have i looked at him and thought he was something special. We can't send him to the minors because we don't want to lose him for nothing, so lets trade him--maybe for another d-man, but regardless maybe just to get a look at Quincy and Ericsson. Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Meech has been solid, Over the past games you've seen his confidence grow, when he handles the puck, Hopefully that continues. Sure he wont be a cornerstone for us, But he will be a serviceable player in the nhl.

skacore 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 I don't mind Meech personally, but there's just no room for him on this squad, with Rafalski and Lebda in the line up everynight, the undersized swiftfooted D man role is taken Quincey would be such a better fit
stormboy 47 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 i haven't seen meech play much this season (since i don't get to watch many games) but i remember being impressed by quincey in the playoffs last year. (not impressed in the sense that he did anything amazing but impressed in the sense that he was filling big shoes and didn't f*** up, which a lot of our regulars were doing with consistency.) if we can't send him back down, and we have guys that will be able to fill out the d for a few seasons, i'd be fine with trading him. sounds like he might have at least some trade value to other teams, but wouldn't kill us to let go of. i mean, if we want someone good, we're going to have to trade SOMEthing. *shrug*

Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Meech is up because of Quincey because Meech can no longer be sent down to GR without clearing waivers. The kid DOES have potential. He's fast, he's aggressive, and he has offensive flair. Give him time. It's surely better to see than to lose him via waivers---and another team WOULD pick him up. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 Hasnt impressed me. I was hoping he'd be more physical, but he's like a less flashy version of Lebda.
Superman54 91 Report post Posted February 13, 2008 I really havent noticed him too much out there Havent seem him do a horrible mistake but he hasnt stood out much either, which I mean isnt a bad thing because he is only a youngy I think offer though, We got alot of potential good defense, im sure he wont be horribly missed

Well, then he's definitely not going to play for the Wings anytime soon. It's almost like they keep Meech around just to see how much smaller and softer this defense can get, as if Lebda isn't small and soft enough.

IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted February 14, 2008 No no. Meech will be the cornerstone of a deal for Hossa. I don't get it. How would Meech be a cornerstone for a Hossa deal. Someone also said package with Sammy and you got a deal. Get serious it is going to take a whole lot more then that guys. Put it this way would you trade Datsyuk for Meech and Sammy? No.

I liked Qunicy a lot - he was consistent and smart in some intense playoff games for crying out loud. Given what our D has been up to lately, that is something we could use.
