stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) So they were mentioning him on Hockey night in Canada and that there is a VERY good chance that after his contract is up after the 09' season, he will jet - Knowing this and the fact that their season is over... what do you think the odds are that he could become available at THIS deadline, when his worth is the highest? With this in mind... I know it would be expensive as hell (contract and trade value) but what would you part with to make him a Red Wing? It would suck to see them leave... but I would part with one or both Filpulla and Hudler, as well as a blue chip prospect like Kindl and/or Abdelkader... with that said, I'm VERY torn on if I would make the move or not, but just IMAGINE what he would bring to the table... keep in mind, if this move would make re-signing Hank long term not possible, I'm against it... intriguing thought at least Edited February 18, 2008 by stevkrause

BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Um, it would take slightly more than Flip/Hudler and Kindl and/or Abdelkader to get Vinny. And what would I be willing to part with? A lot.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 Lecavalier, if traded at all, would be moved during the off-season when more teams can bid for him.

I think they'll wait too, I don't even think it'll be this offseason, I don't think it will be until next years deadline, the only intrigue with THIS deadline, is how DEEP this years draft is... rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 well some draft picks would have to be included as well... thats what would worry me though, HOW much, is the question... Well, considering you were willing to part with 2 1st rounders, 2 2nd rounders, and a 3rd rounder to land Brad Stuart.............
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I'd be willing to part with every first 1st round draft pick for the next 5 years, along with a boatload of prospects. Seriously. Lecavalier is, in my opinion, the best player in the league, because he can do just about everything. He can score, hit, kill penalties, fight, win faceoffs, set up goals, etc., etc. He is such a versatile player, and I'd willing to give up whatever it takes to get him. Will it happen though? Probably not. Lecavalier, despite his questionable leadership qualities and relationship with John Tortorella, is the face of that franchise, and they'd be crazy to move him. People will call you a heretic. Frankly, there's nobody on our roster I wouldn't trade for him. If they wanted Dats, I'd give 'em Dats. If they wanted Z, i'd give 'em Z. I love those guys to death but without getting into the whole "H" word debate i'll just close by saying he's better than any forward on our roster.
Hank 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) Drool!!!! I love Vinny. And because I have a bullet proof vest on right now, I can safely say that with the exception of Lidstrom, I'd give up any player on our roster for him. He's an incredible blend of size, strength, offensive wizardry and toughness. He can literally do it all - score, pass, check, defend and fight. Like Gordie said above me, he is better than every forward on our team. Edited February 18, 2008 by Hank

Hah, tell me about. I agree you, by the way. Nobody on the Wings roster is untouchable (except for Lidstrom) if things came to pass that Tampa wanted to trade Lecavalier. He's that good. That's in interesting thing to note. And Vinny is not a perimeter type of player. Although he can absolutely drill one from above the circles. The thing I really like about him is he's good enough to avoid getting hit (you never see him on the highlights getting railroaded) but yet, if you pester him enough he'll say "F-IT!" and just drop the mits and start fighting. I love that kind of player. To think what he was doing in Tampa before St.Louis was there. When they were just god awful. You look at his +/- the early years and just cringe. You look at it now that he's become a great all around player and its very respectable considering some of the garbage teams he's been on. Absolutely fantastic player. 20+ goals 8 straight years 30+ goals 5 straight years 52 goals, 108 points last year 3rd in points this year 6-4, 220 lbs. I have to stop typing now to wipe the drool off of my face. Edited February 18, 2008 by GordieSid&Ted

Would have to agree, although on one hand I'd think they'd want Dats since he's already locked up long term, but then I think they'd probably rather have Z on reputation alone (the whole groomed to be captian thing and such) but that's a bigger gamble due to his soon to be UFA status. All said and done, I don't doubt the Wings would be out bid. Also i don't know that they wouldn't want a good young goalie (more of a sure thing than Howard) coming back to Tampa. But yeah, Vinnie is defeintly one of the best and most fun to watch for sure. Edited February 18, 2008 by bringback91

I'd go make a deal with the Jackets for Fedorov and then I'd trade Dats, Fedorov, a 1st rounder and Abdelkader for Vinny and wouldn't think twice about it. I guess the deal was basically done but Toronto nixed the deal as they felt Steen was a very 'hot prospect'. First Gretzky in 88, now Vinny in '03. Leaf management should pull a Costanza and just do everything opposite to what they're used to. They'd win Cups for years. But what about Z and Dats for Vinny....... Seriously though i wouldn't be surprised to see Vinny in Montreal.

Sevumar 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 I honestly don't see us giving up Z or Dats as part of a deal for Lecavalier. If anything, we'd be trying to add him to our stable, not trade away the best players we already have.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 It would take a Lidstrom-type player to land him, and Lidstrom only has a couple more years, so we would have to give up one of Datsyuk or Zetterberg. Obviously their biggest hole after they fill the center position back up is goaltending, and I'm thinking Howard would be a good enough prospect there. Of course there would have to be first round picks and a skating prospect involved. Maybe Kindl? Datsyuk/Zetterberg (probably Dats, as I'm sure GMs would be worried about picking up an injury-prone player) Howard Kindl 1sts So not worth it. Leave ruining futures to Atlanta and Nashville. Hank 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2008 (edited) You know, I wonder what it would take to land Vinny. Would TB even fathom dealing him if they got a wealth of prospects in return? Would you deal away Vinny for an offer that included Dats, Hudler (or Kronwall) and Howard? Edited February 18, 2008 by Hank
