Lidstrom injured: "Not too serious"

I felt nauseous when I saw him escorted off the ice! Awful hit for Lidstrom, and far from clean in my opinion. Laperriere totally elbowed Lidstroms jaw. Which is why when I first heard it was knee injury I thought maybe it's to deceive other teams. Lidstrom looked groggy to me.

Hope Lidstrom is able to recover quickly.

ok seriously, the only reason nick couldn't get up was he took a good protion of that hit too the head. his legs were moving fine once he got up. at most he'll miss one game, and i doubt that. man people on here are such pessimists!

I agree. He may be kept out for a few games, but the injury itself did not look that bad. I noticed the way his leg bent immediately, but the way he reacted made me think concussion. Now, knowing there is no concussion, I'm sure hoping it is only precaution and he'll be back shortly.

It was a real uneasy feeling having to see Lids in that state, thats for sure.

But looking at the replay, he clearly did put good weight on both legs before the ref supported him, leading me to believe he is alright. Maybe a game or two just to be safe, since we'll be getting Rafalski and Kronner back fairly soon.

February 18, Detroit Free Press: "It doesn't look too serious," Hahn said, "but he is being kept out as a precaution."

Lidstrom crashed into the boards with his left shoulder and back and dropped to the ice, sitting awkwardly. He tried to get up, clearly couldn't stand on his own legs, and within seconds referee Mike Hasenfratz skated over and held Lidstrom against the boards and stopped play.

Lidstrom was helped off the ice by trainer Piet Van Zant. The fact the Wings already are saying it's not too serious is obviously very good news, but at the very least, knee injuries usually take at least two weeks.

ill take that over two months.

get well soon Captain!

I have to disagree here. It was a clean hit in my opinion. Lids put himself in a bad position and Laperriere took advantage of it and finished his check. I don't mind that hit at all, just wish we weren't on the receiving end of it.

Where did he say that?

From MLIVE:

Lidstrom sustains knee injury, but Wings don't believe it's serious

by Ansar Khan

Monday February 18, 2008, 8:28 PM

Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom sustained a right knee injury early in Monday's game and will not return, the club said. Wings spokesman John Hahn said it doesn't appear to be too serious but he's being held out as a precaution. Hahn said Lidstrom never blacked out and actually wanted to return to the game.

Lidstrom needed some assistance to get off the ice and was taken to the training room after a hard hit from Colorado's Ian Laperriere at 6:10 of the first period. It happened during a Detroit power play as Laperriere hammered Lidstrom against the boards, catching him in the chin or throat area with his forearm. Lidstrom tried to get up but was wobbling before trainer Piet Van Zant came onto the ice to help him off. Lidstrom's right leg appeared to get bent in an awkward position. Later in the period, Aaron Downey instigated a fight with Laperriere and basically pounded him into the ground.

Lidstrom, a five-time Norris Trophy winner as the NHL's best defenseman, is one of the most durable players in league history, having played in 1,430 out of a possible 1,452 games, including the playoffs, since entered the NHL in 1991. And most of the games he missed were instances where the team rested him late in the season.

Per MLive, @ http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...the_ice_af.html

Lidstrom's knee injury is only a sprain, and he'll likely be out only 7-10 days.

Wings coach Mike Babcock said after Monday's 4-0 victory in Colorado that captain Nicklas Lidstrom is likely to be out a week to 10 days after he sprained his right knee early in the first period.

Lidstrom sat in his dressing room stall and watched the rest of the game on TV. The Wings said he never blacked out and at one point wanted to return to the game.

If its his knee, I don't think it is that bad. The way he got hit suggests to me a knee sprain rather then a tear of the MCL or ACL. If you think of how Stevie hurt his in the past or the way other guys tear their knees up, its a lot different. I'll be really REALLY surprised if its more then a bad sprain, from the way he went in and down.

 I was right :) I'm kind of proud of myself right now lol

I hope he'll only be out a week. Also, he'll still be the frontrunner for the Norris trophy.

Pronger was a front-runner last year after having missed 20 games--as such, yeah, I don't think this'll affect Nick's chances.

Well a big sigh of relief, if the reports are correct. I guess we all know that Lidstrom getting hurt is the Wings worst nightmare. Guess we should consider ourselves lucky that our best player has never been plagued with injury problems.

Lidstrom's injury isn't too serious (it seems)...

The Wings snap a 6-game skid...

They absolutely schooled their opponent this evening on defense WITHOUT Lidstrom...

I definitely want Lidstrom back ASAP obviously but the way they played defense tonight without him for the majority of the game made me smile very much.

I just about cried watching that happen today. I'm pretty sure this injury happened ten seconds after I told my friend he never gets injured. I'm so happy somebody started a thread about this.

The fact Lidstrom wanted to come back and play is unreal. I hope he's back by the time they play San Jose.

I am now proud too have Downey as a wing for hammering Laperriere.

That definitely sucked. I was in the upper deck right above where he got hit so I got a pretty good look. Really killed me to see Nick groggy and needing help off the ice. I've never liked that thug LaPerriere - now I really hate him. Plus the Avs radio announcer - dickhead that he is - was actually giddy with joy over the hit - sickening. What a loser to get excited over an elite player getting hurt - very classless announcers. "Lappy" of course said he did nothing wrong in his postgame.

I truly hope he isn't hurt too bad - the only good thing was that we kicked their ass after that - way to go Wings. The Avs fans were totally demoralized - most of them left during the third period. We need to play 8 games against this team - maybe they can move to our division!

Feel better Nick - you are a warrior!

Hey AK. ;)
