I assume you are talking to me, internet tough guy!! First off, no one asked you! Secondly, hiding behind the guise of internet tough guy just shows you to be the jerk you are. I never said Downey was A) useless, B) that fighting was not necessary in the NHL. What I did say way back in the pre season was that Downey was not what the team needed. They need an enforcer, a physical full time player not a part timer who can average 4 minutes a game. (Lucic to name one) I understand those guys are few and far between, but they are out there, and if this team wants to get tougher what good would do them to have a guy who is either in the press box, or holding onto 4 minutes on the bench and the coach has to find a time to put him on the ice that wont cost the team the game. Av's were running Dats/Hank all day last night. and Injured Lids. Downey was the only 1 who stuck up for his team. Had he been performing his role, no one would have questioned him in the first place. What should we do, just bow down to Downey no matter what he is doing out there? I don't think so. He should be critiqued just like every other player if he is not playing the way he should be, and he had not been. Yesterday he did. Good for him, good for the team, but it doesn't change why people were saying the things they were saying before yesterday. Also, are you related to him or something? Opie 308 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 Grittzkey, I wouldn't say they were running players all night after the 3-0 goal it looked like the wings were in control of the game, and I would almost say that Downey beating on Lappy is what started the decline in running players. Because before that they were running everyone over. Also Draper running at whoever hit maltby was great. Was Flip hit with a butt end of the stick in the face or was that just the hand? I had no idea that he called Flip out to change with him so he can get out on the ice and go at Ian again. HAHA if that's not great I don't know what is. They were talking about it all morning on WDFN/WXYT today. It was great! I can just see Aaron demanding Flip to switch up with him. No wonder why he was out there with Hank. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 19, 2008 I'm actually a little disappointed that Downey didn't drill Lappy with a few punches after Lappy jumped him in the 3rd and then wound up at Downey's feet. I'd still rather have a guy that can fight, and fight well, along with being able to get 20 points during a season or even 15 points instead of fighting and maybe getting 5 points during the season... Downey can fight. He isn't needed to put up 15 or so points. There are other guys for that. He's doing his job and he's doing it well. That's all that matters. I want Drake to start fighting again, but I think he's been improved lately too.
