MIA : Secondary Scoring

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

just go out and offer the Slovak leagues top scorer a short contract for the playoffs.

Zigmund Palffy is now the scoring leader of the Slovakian Extraligue with 65 points (27goals 38asists) in 43 games.

Still only 35, maybe worth a risk if he wanted to come back. He never did play on a top side whilst over

here.

Why would that matter? For all we know Yashin might be putting up great numbers in some Russian league somewhere.

You should back the f*** up and realize I'm talking about this streak, not the season at large, when I say scoring in general is a problem.

Peace out, folks. See you d-day. :sly:

Maybe you should have said that to begin with since it was not the topic of the thread.

Not to derail the thread, but $3-4 million for Richards? I'd say $5-6.5 is a reasonable amount for him. Feaster gave him that big contract because of his Conn Smythe in '04.

Whatever the case, he's not worth what he's making now.

scoring in general has disappeared ... i don't think one can overstate just how important our top 4 defensemen are to our offense, not just for their point production, but because they are essential to our style of play ... we're a puck possession team and that puck possession starts in our own zone with the defensemen, it's largely their responsibility to run the transition from defense to offense ... how many times in the last few games have we tried to move the puck out of our zone only to have nowhere to go with it, or miss the forwards, or hit a forward with the puck but he has nowhere to go?

our defensemen do so much more than play defense, and it's the "so much more" that the young guys, through no fault of their own, are not able to step right in and do ... prior to these injuries, if you look at players with 20+, 30+, and 40+ points we were the best in depth scoring out of all the playoff teams in the west ... in a system that relies so heavily on its defensemen, as disppointing as it has been to watch i don't think we can hold anything from the last 10+ games against anyone ...

I know! It's brutal! I don't even think they need a Hossa or Sundin per se, but like, two 20+ goal guys...or something like that

Hossa has 26 goals, And Sundin has 25. They both have had a 20+ goal season before this year. But i get where you're coming from. Just more secondary scoring other than Clears.

Edit: spelling

....and? I always post like that, it's habit, like a vice, I cannot post without them! I losin' it!!!!

I wasn't making a joke about your posting style---the '...' was meant to reflect a loss of words at the content of your post in question.

ok, i know this is kind of extreme, but I'll stand by it.

How often has there been a second line without Samuelsson on it?

It's always Flip, Sammy, Cleary or Huds, Sammy, Flip or Franz, Sammy, Flip....

my point is that ANY line that has Samuelsson on it will be unproductive. He's that bad.

If Huds, Flip and Franzen/Cleary get solid 2nd line alone time w/o Sammy and they still don't produce I'll jump on the "dump 'em" bandwagon. Not until then.

It's because he's always freakign shooting. He thinks he's a sniper but he has no accuracy or timing. So I agree, Sammy is not a second liner, bump him down to third and see what the kids can do on their own, or with Draper centering them.

It's somewhat beating a dead horse, but it's no surprise secondary scoring is MIA.

It was thin from the very start of the season. Someone had to step up in a big way--Flip, Hudler, Sammy--which was a stretch in the development of any of those guys.

For a while it looked like that may happen. Now they've come back down to earth and played about the level as expected. Actually, Sammy has played below the level I expected.
