johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I don't think there's any doubt the Adam Oates trade was the worst in the last 25-30 years. As already mentioned the Shanahan and Schneider trades were among the better ones. And I know he wasn't a superstar at the time but bringing in Larry Murphy for future considerations was a steal. He complemented Lidstrom perfectly on the blue line. Also in 2000 re-acquiring Larionov for Yan Golubovsky.
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) Worst: Bertuzzi Trade, Oates Trade, Wendell Clark and letting McCarty and Lapointe go. Best: Shanny!!!!!! That deal put the icing on two CUP cakes. I think that Holland has done a stellar job but the biggest move sthe team has made have been in free agents and drafting great and virtually unknown talent. Kudos to Holland and their scouts. McCarty was bought out because he made too much money and Lapointe signed in Boston or 5.5 million per year, would you have paid Marty Lapointe that much money? ...one of the worst trades outside of Oates was trading Adam Graves, Joe Murphy, Petr Klima & Jeff Sharples to Edmonton for Jimmy Carson, Kevin McClelland and who knows what other garbage that was included in that deal. The only good thing to come out of this trade was we ended up trading Jimmy Carson to LA for Paul Coffey and of course Coffey was dealt in the Shanahan trade. So, it killed us intially but I guess in the long run it worked out... Kevin Miller for Dino was a good one. Rick Zombo for VIncent "I took a dive" Riendeau didn't work out too well. Of course immediately trading for Doug Brown as soon as he was claimed off waivers by Nashville? he was an essential part of our Stanley Cup wins. Trading Jiri Hudler for Sergei Fedorov at the 2008 trade deadline that will go down as....oh, oops! Edited February 28, 2008 by LeftWinger
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 29, 2008 (edited) The worst trades the Wings have made in recent memory...nothing that hasn't been mentioned. Oates to St.Louis for Federko. Dionne to Los Angeles for a bag of s***. Drake/Cheveldae to Winnipeg for crap and s***. Graves/Klima/etc. to Edmonton for Carson. The best trades that Detroit has made recently: Primeau/Coffey (and Grimson via waivers) to Hartford for Shanahan/Glynn. Anders Eriksson plus picks to Chicago for Chelios. $1 to Winnipeg for Kris Draper. Avery/Kuznetsov/picks to LA for Schneider. Kozlov to Buffalo for Hasek. EDIT: I always look back at the Oates trade and think one thing. What if it had been for Hull instead of Federko? The Essensa trade was pretty bad, he choked big time for us. People literally ran that guy out of town.
