Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted March 9, 2008 I haven't really started a thread, but thought I would on my favorite player. I am very happy with Dats this season and think we are seeing a player we might not have expected. Sure, we know the guy has the highlight moves and a wicked shot (wrister is deadly IMO), but it is his complete game and pitching in on D that is, again IMO, demonstrative of a guy playing to win for the team, not just boost his own stats. This is a kind of leadership that speaks much louder than words - heck it is almost Yzerman-esque. Need evidence, try his +33 as of now, second in the whole league to who... Lidstrom of course. I mean, who would have called that last summer? I'm not getting into the old Hank vs Pavel thing, because both are fantastic, but when people say Hank is a complete player (which he is) it is almost as if they are saying Dats is not and I just don't think that holds water anymore. This is a guy who has repeatedly changed/evolved his game and approach to the better. Bravo Pavel!
IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Not so sure I would go to much into Yzer-esque, but I got in a big arguement earlier in the season by saying that Dats is the best all around player on the team. I am not down playing anyone else's talent just finally others agree. Hank is a great player but when you look at highlights Dats is constantly setting him up. He is capable of the playmaking role, dangler, sharp shooter, and defensive forward. So huge thumbs up and again definitly not down playing anyone's talents. PS the girls is your avatar are pretty hot! LOL
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 PS the girls is your avatar are pretty hot! LOL I was actually thinking the same thing. Datsyuk has been spectacular, and since his performance last playoffs, I haven't had any complaints. My only complaint with him before was him not doing anything in the playoffs, now that he proved he can play with intensity, I have NOTHING to complain about and am happy to have him for a while. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) I know invoking Yzerman is always a risk - I just meant the unselfish part of his play on D. Why are all you guys making comments about my sister and her friend? Gees, I just thought it was a nice picture (they were so happy that night) and I wanted to spread some joy in this world of ours! On topic, kudos to you for sticking up for Pavs! Too many people jump on the knee jerk comments like, "he is great for highlights and not much else..." and all that without watching the guy game after game. He has made so many plays and is the single most important force behind a boatload of goals for Homer, Flip, Cleary and.... gasp Hank too! P.S. Not to mention his insane takeaways. I mean last night that empty netter was truly a goal that was earned. What a fricking steal! Edited March 9, 2008 by LivingtheDream

IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) Lidstrom is, then Datsyuk. IMO. Coz they're really hot. Lidstrom is definitly the greatest leader on the team. Definitly is a stellar all around player but Offensive side he is great for a defensemen. Dats is stellar on the D side and absolutely amazing on the O. I still say Dats has the edge but it is close. Amen to that doggy, they are. Edited March 9, 2008 by IceMunkee

Dats is great but what Lidstrom brings to the table cant be measured. If god help it, if one guy was lost for the year the Redwings would be up s***s creek with out a paddle with Lidstrom. Datsyuk is amazing and is my fav player. But someone at the right time who is playing hot could fill in for Datsyuk and do an ok job. Noone could ever fill Lidstrom's spot. Not now and maybe not ever.

Rafalski is a very good defenseman, but please dont put him in a class with lidstrom. When he wins his 1st Norris then you can slowly start an argument. Kira 451 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 As someone who has followed Pasha since his rookie year, it's nice to see him finally getting some well-earned praise and recognition. I've had fun watching his game grow and evolve. He's so much fun to watch because you never know what little trick he's gonna pull out of his sleeve. Sneaky, smart, slicker than grease - this guy is the real deal. I'm amazed at how he manages to sneak up on a player and just take the puck from him like it's nothing. I've seen him up against three guys, and he still gets out of it and with the puck as well. He gets out of more sticky situations than MacGyver! I honestly believe that he should stand a great chance at winning the Selkie Trophy this year. I mean, come on, why not? Second in the League in plus-minus, top 10 in scoring, top 5 in assists, a takeaway number that is unreal compared to anyone else (last time I looked he had a 40 takeaway lead from the second place player)...what else does he have to do to get at least a nomination? We already know he's a shoe-in for the Lady Byng again - and when is the last time we had a three-peat for that award? Off the ice, I don't think I've ever met someone as kind, considerate and sweet as he is. What a gentleman, in every sense of the word. We have a team load of great players, but in my book, there isn't anyone like Pasha. I'm so damned glad he's ours for the next seven years.

Yemack 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 You really do have a lovely sister LivingtheDream. Anyway Pavel is really taking it to another level this year. I think last year's experience and 'A' letter on his jersey really helped him to develop as a leader. The thing I'm really impressed about Pavel this year is that he looks so incredibly focused a lot of times. I rarely see any player looks so poised and hungry like that. Pasha has said that having the "A" on his jersey makes him very proud and he wants to prove every night that he is worthy of the honor. I think he's done that very well. Raining, I agree with you. I honestly don't see why he can't win the Selkie this year. I mean, look at the year Drapes won it. Surely Pasha's accomplishments are as good as, or even better than Kris's were. Doggy 130 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Datsyuk better win the Selke or there is some crazy stuff going on with the voting. With Brind'Amour getting injured earlier in the season, he's got a better chance. This is a very tough award to judge though. Guys like Sharp, Fisher, Madden, Zetterberg, Kesler and Langkow have all had very good seasons and deserve recognition.

He is starting to score some new kinds of goals I haven't seen him score before too. He is stronger now than he ever has been and it is showing. He really tore it up in game 6 against Anaheim last year and I was wondering why he couldn't have done that in game 5! I think you are being coy about your avatar. I mean dude, half that girls boob is hanging out! You can see below her cleavage! I think you want the attention. It spices up the forums though, so whatever. I just wanna... Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) The whole "trade Datsyuk' affair of last season (most especially the 'Datsyuk for Gomez' thread, which you should all read and accept your share of crow-eating from), coupled with what Datsyuk went on to do after being signed, should have taught some people here a lesson about the 'Gimme now! The future doesn't matter!' attitude... but it didn't. Datsyuk has been splendid, and seven years at $6.7m makes him an absolute steal. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Datsyuk's takeaways and the battles along the boards just amazing. He's an awesome player. It'd be a tough choice between him and pav if we had to give one of the two up. His shot is awesome as well.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 (edited) I am admittingly one to eat crow on this. I had thought that, at the time, signing Datsyuk to that long term extension for that much money right before the playoffs was absolutley ridiculous. Datsyuk was coming off another bad playoff series, and you never knew what you were going to get with him (he had a very bad start to that season, if you can remember). He was inconsistant the rest of the season, despite putting up good numbers towards the end. I'm glad to say, though, that he really proved me wrong. He was fantastic during last years playoffs, and has been this entire season. At times, he's been the Wings best player. It's nice to see him really evolve into a real dependable scorer on this team. He is definitly worth the money he makes, and considering the outrageous, inflated, overpaid salaries of some other players in the league right now (Daniel Briere, I'm looking directly at you), he's a steal at just under seven million. It's great that the Wings do have him locked up, since it'll give them a great 1st line center and playmaker for years to come. Now, they just need to get Zetterberg re-signed. Doggy 130 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Also Datsyuk is great because he provided my highlight of the regular season. Who else remembers Gretzky going mental after Pav scored the game-winner with a few mins left in Arizona?? Damn that was good!!

TheHoff 0 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Its great when both Zetterberg and Datsyuk work together with their plays and quick passes and goals. When Holland signed Datsyuk to a new contract last year I thought that he locked up a great player for the Wings at excellent price compared to the some of the signings by other GM's. Everyone knows his offensive abilites but to me he's improved in his defensive play and overall strengh. His play in the corners and the way he backchecks is what I see improving from last year. I'm glad that they have Downey and McCarty this year because come the playoffs guys like Zetterberg and Datsyuk imo get single out by teams and they take runs at them. I think Datsyuk will finish with more points but both are excellent players that feed off each other but given their second line problems they may need to be seperated.
