Franzen

Ok so I am sure this was covered in the GDT thread, but I have to ask, was his game on Sunday that good?

I only got to watch the highlights, but at one point in time the announcer said he was taking over Homer's role on the PP. Now he said it pretty emphatically, I assumed that to mean that he is really coming into his own (on the pp at least).

My question is to those who watched the game and the past couple, How has Franzen looked?

He's stepping it up, and just in time.

The Wings' success can be attributed to:

1) Health of the backline

2) Secondary scoring

3) Goalies not falling asleep due to boredom

If the Wings play as bravely as they did last year (and not like in 06), they will fare very well.

He is not "taking over" Holmstrom's PP spot. Right now, he is standing in front of the net, because Homer is out, but he can be in the same spot on the second PP unit, once Homer is back.

Yeah I knew Homer was out, but the way it sounded was that Franzen has been playing really well in that role, and that his play has picked up.

Thanks for the info guys.

I thought his game against the Predabillys was the closest thing we've had to a Homer-esque performance in a long time. If we could have two guys willing to sell out in front of the net, it would make life for Tomas INFINITELY better because other teams couldn't focus on just him.

Johan looked really confident. Couldn't happen at a better time.

I think its a combination of finally being over that knee injury + the confidence that hes getting from playing with Hank in a bigger role. The guys got some good hands and skill, and Im glad hes finally figured out how to use it. I was getting really disappointed with this guy.

Now all he has to do is start laying out some more bodies and Ill be ecstatic.

Was good to see him come to the defense of Dom yesterday too. I thought he could have roughed old boy up a little more than he did, given the circumstances, but to his credit he jumped right in and didn't take any stupid penalties for it.

thanks for contributing to the conversation, since nobody knew who he was talking about until you corrected his spelling.

back on topic, i'd love to see franzen continue to produce. i can't tell you how happy i've ben seeing franzen, hudler, and val get some love the last few games. but i remember a time somewhere around our last seven game winning streak that they were all playing really well. then, we went through a stretch where they were all ice cold. all three of them CAN score, as has been documented countless times. i don't want to get too excited about franzen just yet...i love to be optimistic, and i'd love to see him continue to play this way. here's hoping. :hippie:

I agree completely. We all know what those guys are capable of doing, now they just need to do it consistently, which I think they can. I think Franzen has really picked up his intensity these last few games, and I hope it continues. He has been noticeable out there almost every shift. As someone else said, if he could keep this up and get a little more physical, it would be perfect, and right in time for the playoffs.

Mule reminds me of Homer in every sense, but I think Franzen has got much more skill. He's a very important part of the team and it showed last year in the post season. I love what he brings to the table. Can't believe a lot of people actually wanted him traded. MULE FOR THE WIN! lol

The announcers did note that Franzen was playing in Homer's area....but they were sure to point out that Homer is still the best at being in front of the net. Ken and Mick just seemed excited to see Franzen developing that facet of his game, because it gives us three guys to do that job, Holmstrom, Franzen and Cleary. It's nice to have guys besides Homer step up to do that....hopefulyl Cleary will be able to come back and pick up where he left off, but since he was hit with a puck I wouldn't blame him for being a bit hesitant about going to the front of the net when he first gets back.......

And for the record, I'm glad to see that Franzen is starting to come on pretty strong! He's a big fella and it's going to be fun to watch him start using his size to his advantage! I do remember him being impressive last post-season, so hopefully he'll begin picking up the pace these next few weeks and carry some momentum into the playoffs!

I think he has been great since of late

Him and Z-Dawg are getting much better together, He is getting quality chances and you can completly see he is growing much more confidence

I have always been a fan of Franzen-stein! Obviously he's never going to reach superstar status in the NHL but the guy is solid!!!

Superman, love your avatar, but the signature? ummmmmm...
