As mentioned, the guy can score. he did indeed do that - and it was awesome. but let's get real here folks, during mccarty's first stint here, he was never ever called upon to score goals. it was always a wonderful sight to see darren mccarty of all people net three goals against Patrick Roy. any offense from Mac will be a huge plus, but just from already hearing him speak about his return, he understands that he is going to be a role guy on this team. HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Why do you guys think Mac won't be secondary scoring? Sure he's not going to make the ice surfaced covered in hats, but the dude can score goals. He scored a pretty one to win a cup once. Sure he's not going to be playing at that level just yet, but why don't you boys watch him play his first game before you decide how he's going to play his game. McCarty said in an interview during sunday's game that the wing's organization priorities are to win games and win cups and he's just there to help out with that. So I think he's going to rack up a few points respectable to his time on the ice. I don't think he's going to roll around smashing people's face in. I think he'll play a Franzen type physical game. Use his strength, but smart and controlled. But I'll reserve judgement until I see his first shift and how fired up Babcock is when he puts him in. If Babcock is on his 5th piece of gum in the first period when Mac hits the ice, we'll know he's there to put the fear into someone. McCarty hasn't been a consistent point-producer for years. I'd be very suprised to see much offense out of McCarty.

Yeah McCarty had atleast 2(might be 3) hat-tricks for the Red Wings. I remember him doing it twice for sure. The guy definitely knows how to put the puck in the net. Especially come post-season. esteef 2,679 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'll bet dollars to donuts that we dont see Downey and McCarty in the line-up at the same time. Thanks for just ensuring that will happen. Funny, the doubters are running out of stuff to doubt. It used to be "No way MAC makes it back to the NHL" now it's "Well, he's not gonna be on the same line as Downey". What's funny, is that people act as if McCarty is some great offensive player in the postseason, but Hudler has no chance of being an effective playoff scorer, despite that fact that Hudler has a better career playoff points-per-game at every level the two have both played. If he is healthy I have no doubt hes a better player than Downey, however I see them as filling the same role which is why I am guessing they dont get in the line up at the same time. If we do indeed need secondary scoring then putting Downey and McCarty in the line up at the same time doesnt help that.

I understood what you meant, I just think it's funny that people have to always make some kind of prediction instead of just sitting back and letting stuff happen. Downey and MAC will fill the same role but I do see Babcock putting them together at times much the same way he had Downey Drake and Kopecky together. Plus if things start to get out of hand, you can be certain that if those two names are in the lineup, they'll be out there together. P.S. Thanks for being civil in your response. peace out, esteef

Yeah, that one goal he did score, won the game for the Red Wings. What a great game. Great finish. 6-5 victory thanks to D-Mac.

Thanks for being civil in your response. peace out, esteef I agree with you, there's little point in speculating on Mac's play and our questions will be answered when he finally is dressed. But then again, I'm bored at work, and that's what forums are for! Watching all the interviews with Mac, about him talk about family, sobriety, and his renewed passion for hockey makes me think he might not be the same player he used to be, meaning he might take more of an offensive role. Then I take another look at the picture of him knocking some minor league kids tooth out and wonder. All we have to do is see how many pieces of gum Babcock has chewed before Mac hits the ice. Then again, it's entirely possible that he might start on the grind line that has been taking the opening face off every game for a while now. That's what I would do if I was Babcock. That would instill confidence. The other team would think he's back and ready to play if he was on the opening face off. I'd play him a lot of minutes too, to get him into his best shape. If he doesn't shape up, oh well, no risk was taken. If he does, then maybe now the Mac of old, or damn near it, will be back.

redwingsfansince87 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'm heading down to the game tomorrow night against the Stars, is there any chance that DMac might suit up? I've been looking all over to try and find some info, but can't. Thanks in advance from a long time reader and not very often poster.
