McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 yup, and I think the Wings need to win 16 games in the playoffs to win the Stanley Cup...

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Ummm...... Am I missing something? Nashville, if they win all their remaining games, can earn 102 points, which is six more than the Wings have. And the Wings would win the tiebreaker, which is most wins. So if the Wings win three more, they clinch the division and thus, a top-three playoff spot. That'll come before clinching a non-division-champ berth (which is the usual way of doing it) because the Central has reverted to the suckitude of last year. Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 11, 2008 Let's not be spoiled, gang. Years of success have gotten us all accustomed to a high seed, but for many teams clinching a playoff spot would be a big deal. We ought to be grateful whenever it happens for us. I get that we are only 3 away from a top spot, but I'm pretty sure that we have already clinched a playoff spot. I mean, it would take an act of God, like the Wings being kicked out of the league, to not make it into the playoffs at this point.

Sure, the Wings have all but locked up a spot, but mathematically it's still possible they could be knocked out, if they manage to lose all their games and others get hot. Clinched means there's no mathematical possibility of losing the spot.
