Few random questions

Some random questions, anyone got answers?

1. How many jerseys do each of the players have. Regular season? Playoffs(if different)?

2. Who makes their jerseys, is it the NHL?

3. Not Red Wing related question - Chicago has a patch with some w's. Anyone know what it's for?

As far as i know there are two game jerseys the wings have (home and away), and their practice jersey. I don't know if they have backup's just in case something happens (I can't imagine why not). As for who makes it, I think Reebok made these last set of jerseys, through an affiliation with the nhl, though.

The WWW is in honor of their former owner, William Wirtz, who died around the beginning of the season.

1. They go through 6 sets of game jerseys each year. Playoffs are dependent on how far they go. They do get new jersery's, I believe one set for rounds 1-3, and 1 for the SCF.

2. RBK makes the jerseys.

EDIT: 6 sets meaning 12 total, 6 home, 6 away.

I know that they have home/away/practice. I was wondering how many of each they have in hand.

I also know that Reebok makes the jerseys. I should have explained myself better on the question. Who letters them & repairs them if they need repairing. Or does Reebok deal with that also?

I know they have at least two of each of home and away, because in one fight, Downey practically ripped his jersey in half and they had a backup for him to wear the rest of the game.

I believe Reebok is the manufacturer of the jersey, and I am sure there are multiple copies for each player. I believe the equipment manager is in charge making sure it gets stitched with names/numbers. There are also jersies already stitched with names an numbers for every player signed to a contract. All of your Grand Rapids players and so on, in case of injury to a current roster player, and a call up is needed.

Practice jerseys and socks is a good question. They usually have a couple different sets. Each line usually wears a different color, and d also wear a different color. As far as how many of each, I have no idea.

The Wings keep one extra jersey for each rostered player on hand, for both home and away. As I said before, they go through at least 6 of each. Small repairs are made by the equipment manager, and the stitching of the names and numbers is left up to each individual team. I believe the Wings do it themselves. I know for the preseason jerseys they have used the same outside company for years.

Chicago's WWW patch is for William W. Wirtz, their owner, who passed away at the beginning of the season.

Equipment manager Paul Boyer and his staff handle the repairs and name/number sewing for Wings jerseys. The names are on a separate piece of fabric (nameplate) so they can be added or removed as needed. They carry nameplates for every player under contract to the organization and a few spare jerseys (numbered) in case of emergency call-ups on the road.

Each team used to get 2 "sets" of home and road jerseys a year, one at the beginning of the regular season and one at the halfway point. Teams making the playoffs would get a third set which they would then wear through training camp the next year. I don't know how many jerseys each player would get from that set though.

There was one game in the early 90s where Calgary was on the road and Theo Fleury's jersey was torn beyond repair. The team didn't have another one for him to wear, but a fan who happened to be wearing a Fleury jersey gave it to him to wear for the rest of the game.

I also remember watching a Wings-Leafs game in the 80s where a player's jersey was torn badly, so he went to the locker room and put on a different numbered jersey with no nameplate. I think he was on the Leafs, can't remember for sure though.

You have your facts incorrect. Theoren Fleury's jersey was bloodied, and he was kicked off the ice to have his jersey cleaned. A fan threw down his jersey, but the jersey was covered in autographs and ruled unusable and Fleury was not allowed back onto the ice until his jersey had been cleaned.

Well honestly, I know the real answer to the first 2 questions, the only question I really wanted to know the answer to was the www on the blackhawks jersery, and that was answered for me by you, thanks.

Reason I asked the other two was, I have a buddy of mine who has never been to this forum, so I was telling him about it. He thinks that some of the things people say on here is ridiculous and inaccurate, and he had me ask those first two questions just to see what people have to say, just so he can prove that some people on this forum post random things out of their asses just to pretend to know things that they really don't.

The above quote that is in bold is completely inaccurate, and was obviously made up on the spot, according to my buddy.

Your buddy is wrong.

Listen next time (I know it will be a while) the Wings trade for someone, or call someone up from GR. They usually throw a tidbit about the jersey's in.

Boyer and co. take care off all the mending of the jerseys. RBK supplies 6 sets of jerseys to each team periodically throughout the season.

If you look carefully, you will notice that some teams sew each individual letter on the back of the jersey, while some (like the Wings) sew a nameplate on. Also take notice to the next Rangers game you see. I haven't watched any in a month or so, but as of about a month ago, they were modifying their jerseys. The part that hangs down in the front and the back is/was sewn up so that the jersey is an even length all the way around instead of having a dip in the front and back.

I could careless about the Ranger's jerseys. I know for a fact that this is completely inaccurate. Do you have any sort of proof to show that the red wings use nameplates instead of individual lettering? This doesn't take a picture of a replica jersey you own with a name plate and post it. Real proof? You show me proof and I'll buy you a pair of first round play off tickets. I'm 110% positive that you bent over and yanked this right out of your ass.

Edit: I am talking about regular season/playoffs. No training camp.

How about if I show proof that the Wings use individual lettering.

That's not a nameplate.

eva: i believe thats the point kwen was trying to make. although in an abrasive manner he was saying that the wings lettering is sewn directly to the sweater (which i also believe to be the case).

the teams that use a nameplate (or used to, i'm not sure if the new RBK edge use them at all) all have/had the names completely straight across the back where as the wings and other teams have them set to a slight arch.

check this pic out. above pavelski's * you can see (its tough but its there) a faint line around his name. that is a patch they sew the letters onto and then attach to the jersey. don't know which teams do it though...

Sorry, I should have clarified, during preseason.

The best photographic proof of this is HERE, look at "Photos of the week (Sept. 24)" the one with Hank sitting on the bench shows it the best.

wow... what a quick job that was done on that jersey (it's not even sewn flat to the jersey material)... I know it's preseason, but that looks horrid.
