Who do we WANT to play in the first round?

Anaheim. I know it won't happen but I'd like to see the Wings play them before they get banged up by playing physical teams like Calgary and San Jose. The little injuries are already piling up and it's not going to get any better playing seven game series against those beasts.

personally I'd like to see us play Minnesota. Short travel for one round would be nice for a change. We're eventually going to have to travel to the west coast, assuming we go a few rounds or more, so the shortest travel the better.

If the playoffs were starting today, i would not mind the standings at all

Detroit v.s Vancouver

San Jose v.s. Calgary

Colorado v.s .Minnesota

Dallas v.s. Anaheim

Personally i think Dallas and Anaheim are our two biggest threats, and for one of them to be knocked out 1st round, makes it that much easier for us.

Thats kinda what i was thinkin...we have consistantly started out on the top of the standings, sometimes winning the cursed presidents trophy and playin a "weaker" team that comes back to bite us in the ass... the "weaker" team that we were supposed to steamroll ends up knocking us out and goin to the cup finals lol. Maybe we would be better served to play a stronger team out of the gate to get our playoff blood flowing or something?

I strongly disagree... I think our 2 biggest hurdles are San Jose and Anaheim and with how crash and bang they play, I would LOVE to see those 2 go at it in the first round and beat the living crap outta one another, we always handle Dallas pretty well and Turco usually disappears in the playoffs

personally, I agree with what ultrapail said - Minnesota, for the same reasons, easy travel, similar style team, won't bang us up too much and will probably play us hard enough to send it to 6 and keep us fresh...

in an IDEAL world, round 1 would look like this (it's very possible too)

1. Detroit - 8. Minnesota

2. Dallas - 7. Canucks

3. Colorado - 6. Calgary

4. San Jose - 5. Anaheim

gimme Dives

and definitely no to Canucks. Wings aren't the best team in scoring garbage goals

and against Luongo it could be a long series not necessarily won by the Wings

I'll take the Predators for sure. This is quite possible as well if they take a couple of the 3 games they have left with us if were resting some guys. Other then that they have an easy schedule remaining.

I would not want to play Vancouver. Did you see Luongo last night, good god if he gets hot it's tough to score goals.

My ideal first round would be:

#1 Detroit vs #8 Phoenix (i miss the sea of white)

#2 Dallas vs #7 Minnesota (wild fans would love the chance to knock out Dallas)

#3 Colorado vs #6 Calgary (good, competitive division matchup)

#4 San Jose vs #5 Anaheim (for same reason as Louisville said in previous post and I've wanted to see these two collide for a few years now)

Honestly i think dallas would be a good first round test...i DO NOT want to play vancouver, the thought of not being able to score on a hot goalie again is almost disheartening...almost.

Ya but its not like they'd be able to score on you much either. The Wings are good at getting lots of shots and that would be enough to score on Luongo even if he plays on his head. Even the Avs are 3-2 against him this year and have scored 16 goals against him, so you should have no problems.

Detroit v Colorado

Dallas v Vancouver

Calgary v Minny

San Josy v Anahiem

Sharks are a very strong team right now, I have a huge amount of faith in the style of game the Wigns play. I mean did you guys see Datsyuk last night??? He had 2 big hits aside from his 3 point night. I love to see him throwing his body around always giving his opposition the shoulder. So back to the sharks part, i think they would give the wings the most trouble. Of course we all know that Ducks would be tough as well with the overpadded JIGGY and 6'5" Captain elbowing everyone.

Anyway, Colorado would be a series win for the wings and would get the whole team on a roll. I feel they have turned it around right now since the injury slide, and are ready to go.

By the way, Sammy has been great past 3 weeks. The whole year I have been saying the Mule is an important piece to this team. It is just finally people are noticing his presence, he has hands close to Datsyuk, great size, and his tough and has a quick release.

There was nothing to notice prior to the past month. He wasnt scoring, he wasnt hitting, and all around wasnt playing good hockey.

I don't want to play Vancouver, because for some reason we've had bad luck when it comes to the first round and hot goaltenders. Colorado would be fun and it would probably help to restore the rivalry, but the way they've been playing the past two weeks, we might want to wait. Personally, I'd take Minnesota or Nashville. Close proximity, and we've had good success against both teams.
