Cup favorites

The Red Wings are the overwhelming favorites to win the Stanley Cup in a poll of 365 NHL players in latest issue of Sports Illustrated. Detroit gained 62 percent of the votes, followed by Anaheim (20 percent), Ottawa (eight percent), San Jose (three percent) and Montreal (two percent). Players could not vote for their own team.

Look the best analysts in the game... the actual players have faith in us. So I suppose we should as well.

Yes. Cue certain posters dropping in to rationalize to themselves why this doesn't mean anything, so that they can continue to be defensively pessimistic.

The Ducks are 2nd because the players more than anyone know that any team that plays them gets screwed.

that's what makes them main favorite. the sole fact that the reffing and Campbell

have no balls to call the game as it is supposed to be and put Ducks players into

the sin bin regulary. instead, players know that the refs will be artificaly equalizing

the number of PP's per team and Campbell will gladly excuse Ducks goons from

suspensions. or just hand them 1 game for trying to kill opposing player :(

as disgusting as it sounds this is the truth and this is what makes Burke's goons

favorites.

What?! No doom and gloom in this post? Not even a hint that the Wings have sucked since February and can't even lace thier skates up properly like a gritty high second line scoring team of winners (that include 91) should?

Friend, you are not toeing the line of the latest fad. All statistical evidence points toward disaster. You are not blending in with the pessimistic pack. They are coming for you.

Seriously, thank gawd there are still some folks around here that are capable of the unknown excitement that is playoff hockey. It's kind of depressing, IMHO, to witness the handfull of moosefarts around here that piss and moan about how the end is not near...it's here. To them I say...shut up and be entertained. Or just shut up.

Moosefarts. Oh, my, that killed me.

I think that knowing how the Ducks play and how the powers that be favour them should be good incentive to show them up in the playoffs no matter when we meet them. If, by chance, we don't meet them, I hope someone else shows them. Crime doesn't pay. Good shall prevail. All that stuff.

It is nice to know that we get some respect. I like it that it comes from the other players.

<enter doom'n'gloom mode>

but, on the other hand, it means that they know they'll have too play extra hard to beat us, so they'll be ready.

The Ducks should be the favorites because they're the defending champs, they've got a team stacked with talent that's loaded for the playoffs, and a great clutch playoff goalie. Also, even though it was last season, they did beat the Wings in the playoffs, which should account for something, although I know it accounts for nothing on LGW. I have no problem saying that they're the favorites.

However, all this doesn't really mean anything, because it frankly doesn't matter who the favorites are. I guess sportswriters have a lot less faith in the Wings than players do, because I don't think many analysts are picking the Wings to win it all. I'd rather have the Wings as underdogs than as favorites.

Yes, damn those idiots from LGW for being optimistic! They should be acknowledge reasons to be pessimistic, like you!

Seriously, now.

Anyway, for the record, I'll give you some reasons why Anaheim won.

1) Detroit: Calgary/San Jose, two extremely tough, physical teams. Anaheim: Backstrom/Luongo, sans much physicality. Enough said.

2) Detroit: Schneider and Kronwall out, Bertuzzi with back spasms, Lebda with an injured ankle, Lidstrom with back problems, Zetterberg playing on painkillers due to back problems, Calder with a broken hand, Holmstrom concussed, Quincey (8th defenseman) in the lineup. Anaheim: No significant injuries.

Happy?

Oh no, it's the self-proclaimed LGW police.

Seriously man if you were around in the 50's, you would have been in charge of the Blacklisting Committee with your paranoid accusations of people who are just willing to make objective posts. You think everyone here is anti-Wings just because they're trying to see things from several perspectives.

All I was alluding to is that the Ducks should be favorites because they won the Cup last year, and brought back an even better team than last year. I don't think that's pushing it too far on my part.

Thanks, king exaggeration. No, it's only a few, and you're one of them. 'Everyone' is certainly untrue, but nice try.

Hopefully one day people here will be able to speak their minds without being accused of being Ducks fans or Flyers fans, or whatever other teams you and several others are accusing some of us for cheering for.

You have no idea how big a Wings fan I am, yet you're constantly making generalizations about me and certain other posters who are willing to speak their minds.

I'd like for you to see me in my room when I'm watching a Wings playoff game, and just dare call me a non-Wings fan then.

Where, ANYWHERE in his post, was he acting with a gloom-and-doom attitude that the Wings were even done before the postseason even started?

I'm still searching for it...

The doom-gloom posts and posters get on my nerves on end, but constantly waving your happy flags around like this is just as annoying, especially when people, and this member in this instance, aren't posting anything close towards the sky falling.

Chill out and lighten up.
