I have to imagine they'll fast track it, ala Yzerman, but he's a tier down from the Captain in terms of historical impact (no knock to Nick implied), so maybe they'll wait for his HOF induction? Very good question. Either way, it'll be up there before too long. As for role with the organization, something tells me he'll wind up coaching in Sweden. He's said many times that he wants his kids to know their culture, and, if memory serves, he contemplated retiring a few years back in order to facilitate a move back there. I always took that as more of a negotiating tool. Never did I actually think that he was serious about that. It always had the scent of BS. Here is my question people always say that signings like the Briere and Gomez signings last off season will drive up the FA price. Well what about the opposite? Campbell is a UFA after this season with the Sharks. He has turned down 5 mil a year I think it was from Buffalo, do you think he is looking to make upwards of 6-6.5. He has all the makings of a GM, maybe moreso than even Stevie C. Still, I really dont think hes ever going to have a strong defensive game. He is definitely looking for 6-7M. And hell probably get it too. Sure, it's not ideal or anything, but what did everyone say when Stevie retired and Shanny left? Who knows who will step up. Kronner? Flip? Cleary? Someone rookie? A deadline deal? We'll have money to do what we do best- win. Also, to the person who said Nick's wanting to return to Sweden for his family was BS- you are wrong. It has already been pointed out that it was when his kids were starting school. If there's any player in the league I beleive would leave it behind for their family, Nick is at the top of the list. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) No matter if the Red Wings win the cup or not, I think that Lidstrom's number will be retired quickly, because he has been with the team for so long and is the best defenseman that the Wings have ever had. He is a great Captain and is well respected so I don't see why they would wait to retire #5. But since I can not imagine Lidstrom not leading the D and setting an example for the others to follow, I will just pretend that the day of his retirement will never come. Yemack 1 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 Nick was a huge factor to our semi dynasty. Stevy was THE driving force but Nick took care of the business on ice even more so than Stevy IMHO. I remember in 2002 Stanley Cup final.. I don't know which game it was but it was the opening face off. Obviously every player was pumped and ready to play and die on that day because so much was on the line. We won the draw and the puck went to Nick. He calmly observed the whole situation and passed it to his defensive partner in a very controlled manner. I don't know why but I learned so much about hockey from that one pass than any other tic tac toes I've ever seen. It was like he knew everthing going on the ice at the time and he was ready to control everything at any given time. That is why I call him Grand Master ever since. Like Yzerman, Nick is a very special player in the history of hockey and should be treated accordingly when he retires. That is my take. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I believe it was saying that when Nick retires he'll take Stevie's job and Stevie will take Kenny's. The big question is who'll take Nick's? Zata for captain. #1 d-man and All-Star Norris winner=?
